Just a few words to praise the sturdyness of the FJR.........

While riding double down a road in Oregon a week or so ago a miracle occured........

At a speed of 70 mph with a passenger on the rear suddenly at no more that 10 feet away was

a deer. We hit the SOB dead center, threw it over 100 feet down the road and stayed upright......

Parts everywhere scattered over 30 yards. Now I know that I had nothing to do with the outcome as it happened but I have to praise the front forks for only bending slightly and keeping us on a straight line. Did not even slide forward on the seat much. All plastic and headlight assembly destroyed including both side panels. Hurrah for the FJR's strength. PS. rode a naked FJR for the next three days....... :glare:

Hm, I knew there was a reason I drove my car today.....the whole 5 miles and 8 minutes to work. Rabies must be running rampant in them stupid meat sacks.

Perhaps Yamaha might include this feature as a part of future ad campaigns;

It may not be able to smoke a Hayabusa but it will stay upright after a deer strike.

Glad you're OK.

'Tis the season. For the next several weeks anyone riding anytime near dusk or dawn had best keep both eyes constantly peeled for the forest rats.

In addition to the normal seasonal movement of deer, the hunters get into the woods and get all the animals moving. Right now in NH it is turkey, pheasant and deer season and I see hunter's vehicles parked all along the roadways. Monday morning I had a Fisher run across the road in front of me, in an area where there were several hunter's vehicles. Few people ever see one of these but this is the second fall hunting season where I've had one cross the road in front of me.

Mine was actually 26 months ago on my Ducati ST2, near where Blue Ridge Parkway becomes Skyline Drive. I did stay up, front of the bike was trashed, and I felt that I nearly had a heart attack afterward from the adrenalin rush and post-event jitters.

So far I have been lucky.Every time I go visit my Yoopers I always see them between mid Wisconsin and Upper Michigan dashing over the highway.A lot of close calls but no strikes yet.Its bow season right now in the UP so lots of hunters out and you can hear the deer rifles warming up.Outstanding time to ride but the risks for a strike go up significantly.I worry more about hitting a coyote or some loose dairy cow than a deer

I think some of you machinist types (Skyway, et al) should design an Aussie Road Train Bull-Bar type deer-catcher for the FJR! They'd probably sell pretty well this week!

Several recent............and unfortunate deer strikes w/little to no injuries (least to humans) but hit a bat and a good person (member) dies.

Strange

Yea I know, that happened over a year ago, but still, I cant get out of my mind.

I had a secondary impact on the way to WFO-6... lady ran into the rat and knocked it across the road so i went over it...
