A poor mans highway pegs

How come you guys just don't get the Wild Bill type highway pegs?
Because when they scrape, and they will, they are dangerous. If you are anything taller than a willy Wonka worker, you can appreciate the nice elevation. I find the position to be very comfortable. I just need a bit to spell my legs, then I go back to the stock pegs.

I cut slider-extenders from 2" OD black nylon (the same stuff the sliders are made from). I reduced the OD at one end so they slides into the slider and are held in place with rare earth magnets. I can put them in and take them out in just a couple seconds.

I'll try to get a picture up shortly.
That sounds like a great idea, I would love to see the pictures and find out how to get a set made for myself.

Mine don't. I am slowly wearing down the nubs of my standard peg feelers and have NEVER touched the mounting part of my Wild Bill bracket. But I do have custom suspension front and rear that seems to give me more height and less squat.

I ride the heck out of my FJR, and while I've touched down with the pegs (both driver and Wild Bill Highway), they both fold back without a problem!

Seems like a lot more will go wrong before the Wild Bill mounting bracket touches ground. At least on the '05.

One of my favorite farkles!

I bought extended frame sliders from Ebay with the hopes of using them as highway pegs also, but they are still too short and my legs hit the fairing making it uncomfortable to use the sliders as pegs.

So the cheap side of me made some frame slider extenders using schedule 80 sprinkler pipe, aluminumized tape, and old cut up grips.

It is comfortable to use, but I am concerned the tape will expand/contract with temperature making it impossible to remove them. They are high enough to clear in a tight turn and are installed snug, but I wonder if there are any pit falls to trying this? Maybe drill a hole through the sliders and extenders with a pin to be safe?

Any thoughts?

I use extended frame sliders without an issue!!

Nice "Donorcycle"

I came up with the lazy mans highway pegs. I installed the long sliders and put some of that grippy stair tread tape on it. You can only get the inside half of your boot on em, but it works fine holding your foot in place.

Cost was under $1

Time to install: less time than it took to write this. Peel and stick.

Reaction from fellow cheapskates so far: Priceless

Crap! I can't find any pipe that fits in the OES sliders and goes over the allen bolt heads.
That is why I bought the extended pegs. I just got lucky that the pipe fit, but was loose. That was the reason for the aluminized tape. To act as a shim.

I've been using my redneck highway pegs (patent pending) for more than a year. 1/2" OD PVC electrical tubing fits perfectly inside the hole of Motovation sliders. Stick the pipe in the hole, mark where you want to cut it, and hack it off. Drill a 1/8" dia hole in the underside of the slider where you can't see it, then just run a drywall screw into the PVC to hold it still. Cover exposed 'foot rest' with anti-slip tape. Low-tech at it's finest. If you have to buy a 10' piece, it probably cost all of a $1.39

I only use them on major multi-thousand mile trips, as I think they're butt-ugly, but they go off-on in seconds. Like others have said, they're only comfy for a few minutes at a time, but on a hot day after several hundred miles they're great.

I think its funny that alot of you crack on me for this picture, which BTW I dont mind at all. The thing is, this is my poison, I dont drink or smoke. This is the only way I can add chance to my life. Plus if your riding an FJR like a ***** you are on the wrong bike. This bike it SERIOUSLY fun. This was one time, my wife took the picture from her cell phone, in the car beside me, traveling 60MPH down the road because I texted her while riding down the road with no hands on the bars!! TAKE THAT! Most of the time I at least have on a helmet!! HA Love the AE, it has auto pilot!!!

Sorry this is TOTALLY off topic.

Wait, sliders are dual purpose and yes its hurts your back to sit like this very long but having somewhere to move your feet for a short time is VERY nice!!! ON TOPIC

Thanks Fred! + for you my friend!
Two thumbs up on this reply!

I keep hearing this claim that Wild Bill's pegs scrape... Even folded up? Looks to me like the stock pegs would make contact way before the WB peg mounts...

Did you ever get pics of your peg extenders? I'd like to see what you did.

I have Wild Bill brackets, but don't use his highway pegs. I bought (on the forum) a pair of Kuryakin offset extenders and Kuryakin pegs--they have a rubber tread that holds your boot sole better. The offset gives me another inch or two of leg extension, but more important, it extends the length of the footpegs so my calf isn't rubbing against the sharp edge of the fairing. With the stock WB peg (that I had on my first Gen I), I had to try to put the sole of my foot on the very end of the peg and try to keep it from sliding--not a restful position. The sharp fairing edge, at least on the '05, was very irritating on my leg. The Kuryakin parts are all chrome-y, and look pretty damn Harley, but they work. Never scraped them, either.

I appreciate the ability to vary positions while riding, from having both feet on the highway pegs, to just one or the other and alternating, and frequently stand while riding a straight open stretch. Helps keep me awake too. And I wouldn't mind one more alternative. Gonna go look at my sliders and see what might fit 'em--especially if it was something I could take off between trips. Here's a pic where you can get a pretty small view of my highway peg setup.

I had that same set up with the Wild Bill brackets and the Kuryakin offset extenders and Kuryakin pegs, but I found that they started to scrape just before the foot pegs did. I don't mean they scraped when extended, though they would have, but that the offset piece would scrape just before the OEM foot-peg, and I really didn't like the idea of something with no give starting to scrape before the foot-peg did. I am looking into putting Wild Bill pegs brackets back on the bike, but I am not sure what kind of set up I will use for the peg. One thing for sure is that I don't want anything to scrape before the pegs do.

Can you turn the offset to be up and behind the stator cover?

That was with the offset angled up as far as it would go. If they had been angled down they would have hit a lot sooner.

Sorry for the delay. Finally a couple of pictures

Left and right slider extenders. Left is longer than right to match depth of slider. 1/2" D x 1/2" L rare earth magnets epoxied in place.
