I accessed the diag screen and was curiously thumbing through it. I changed a few numbers in there accidently, did I hurt anything? Can I reset it? Bike starts and seems to run ok. Is it possible to screw things up in there and if so how do I get it back to stock settings?

Diagnostic Mode:

(Appears to be the same for '03 - '05)

To enter Diagnostic Mode: Have the key turned off (kill switch on) and press the Select and Reset together. Turn the key to on and hold the buttons for about 8 seconds. A screen will apear that reads "d1 AG". release the buttons.

(so far, same as prior models)

Use the "SELECT" select "Co" adjustment or the diagnostic mode "d1 AG". Press Select and Reset for 2 seconds. "d:01" should appear on the clock if you did everything right.

Press "SELECT" for the next code, Press "RESET" for the previous code.

Codes go from d:01 to d:70 -- go buy a manual for the codes.

Note: Lean Angle Sensor (Overturned Motorcycle) Fault code: 30

Scroll through the diagnostic codes to:

61 (the history of fault codes). If you see a 0 at the bottom right then there are no trouble codes. However if you see a number 30 that is the code for an over turned motorcycle. If you have the code 30 and want to erase it. Press the select button and go to number 62 (erase history code). Then turn the kill switch off, then back on again. This will erase this and any other codes stored in the memory. Then turn the key off to go back to normal operations. If you have any more codes I suggest you order the big book from FJR Goodies to problem solve or take it to your dealer.

Hopefully it stays that way for you, but if it doesn't I found this https://www.fjr1300.info/howto/co_adjustment.html after becoming interested in accessing the diagnostic and CO adjustment screen. If you changed some numbers it seems like you changed the CO setting which would be adjusting the fuel mixture. This would likely trip some diagnostic trouble codes for running too lean or rich. Simply erasing the codes would not correct the root cause, at least not on the cars I used to turn wrenches on, but I don't even have an FJR yet so I could be completely wrong, just offering my two cents as a former auto driveability tech. As I said, hope she stays running fine for you:)

+1 what FJRAE said.

I think the only thing you can change is clearing codes, and if the Barbarian Mod was done then you could also change the CO settings. I did the mod to my bike 4 years ago, but now I can't find the link for Gen II's. It's similar to the Gen I, but different wire is moved. Maybe someone else here can help you with that if you want to see the Mod. Otherwise just use the directions in the links to go in and adjust the CO settings. Be sure to write down the original #'s just in case you need to go back. If you read the 2 links provided you will see some #'s they had before ,and after the mod, so you will have an idea were to set yours.

The diAG mode is detailed, plus diAG codes listed HERE.

Enabling Gen II CO adjustments is discussed in this thread HERE. Jon wrote a most excellent procedure for the Gen II wire swapping at the ECU connector and made it into a PDF which Duff has hosted HERE.

The basic diAG mode only allows you to read the status of the sensors. Some of the diAG codes are actuator codes which lets you turn things on and off like the radiator fan relay and lets you do things like fire the coils. All the actuator codes require you to toggle the red Run/Stop switch to initiate (actuate) the tasks. As mentioned previously, the diAG mode will allow you to view any codes stored in memory and clear the stored codes. In the normal diAG mode you can't change anything other than clearing stored fault codes

The only mode where you can actually change anything is the CO mode but you have to move wires at the ECU connector to enable the CO screen on the meter assembly. When you initiate the diAG display you will have to select either the CO mode or diAG mode so you will know that you are in the CO mode. Any changes that are made to the CO values will be permanently stored in ECU memory even if the wires are returned to stock locations.

Thanks everyone. One of my codes was 30 and two others. It's my sons bike and I had the jumper in looking for the CO and never got into it. Definately was in DIAG mode only. Maybe I triggered something, I did not toggle the kill switch. All I know is now the codes are clear and it seems to run sweet. It is still too cold to ride and lots of snow, so will get it out as soon as possible. I did get the Barb mode done eventually and the noticable edgyness at the bottom is now gone.

I have the FSM pdf, but I don't seem to see any of these codes listed in there. What area of the FSM are they in?

Well, that is the issue, you DON'T have a FACTORY Service Manual. You have a copy of the Service Manual which is a copyright violation that may or may not contain the codes, or for that matter may not contain specific information and procedures.

Upper tool bar of the PDF page, use the search....

So you're saying all PDF's out there are pirated? Caused I assumed when I bought it, it was legit. When I bought my FZ1, the previous owner included a service manual on PDF that was very similar to the FJR manual.

And I already did use the search. Nothing about codes. How many pages is the FSM?

Guaranteed.

I have a Gen I with a two part manual so I couldn't guess how many pages may be in a Gen II manual. The Gen II manuals that I have seen have 9 sections.

Yep, what ionbeam stated....if it's PDF, it's pirated. Yamaha has, to the forum's knowledge, never compiled a PDF of the FSM.

BTW, my 04 FSM is 593 pages, not including the wiring diagrams.

And every last one of them hasgreasy fingerprints on it, too! :D
A clean FSM is a sure sign of a pretender. A real man's FSM has oily and greasy fingerprints on every page. Those loosers with the CDs and PDF manuals have no chance of fingerprints, therefore...
