I turned right out of a parking garage downtown, and accelerated. The intersection was about 80 feet away and I was going through a green light.

All of a sudden, as I entered the intersection, a Mazda sedan ran the red light, realized their mistake (or caught my headlights, or both) and STOPPED, taking up my whole lane.

I braked heavily - front and rear - but hit the driver's side wheelwell, just a few inches from the center of the wheel.

I landed on my left shoulder a few feet away, hitting my helmet on the pavement, and ended up in a prone position on my stomach. Immediately after, I was surrounded by people including 2-3 nurses who proceeded to make sure I was conscious, breathing, and who checked me for broken bones. EMA showed up within three minutes as the station is about one mile away. Hospital was about 1.5 miles away.

Result? Bruises on my left arm, right hand and wrist, soreness in my hips, and a strained left knee.

My first motorcycle collision - and it went much better than what could've been...

I was wearing a Shoie RF-1000, gloves, and Converse Combat Boots, but no armored jacket or pants as I commuted that day (I know, no excuse for the jacket...)

I am truly blessed!!! Thank you, God!

Wow! Very glad you're okay.

especially in light of no armored jacket OR PANTS . . . glad your skin stayed where it belongs. :)

Ouch! Glad you still sorta in one piece!

Get an armoured jumpsuit, like a 'Stitch (don't know who else makes a one piece). I feel naked without it, I even put it on to ride Ms. Piggy up to the shop for a drop off, all of two miles and one traffic light. Takes seconds (literially) to jump into it and your fully protected. A friend of mine asked me about a Darrien two piece vs. a one piece 'Stitch. I told him to ask a couple of our friends how often they wear the pants of their two piece suits (almost never, what a suprise).

I hate seeing titles like this post.

But...we have to read to discover the extent of injuries or damages. Dang, Spyda, buy a lottery ticket tonight, would you!?!?!?

Great news to read you're not severely injured. Of course, many of us know the soft tissue injuries will surface in a couple of days as will the accompanying aches.

I hope the bike is repairable. If not, replacement therapy can be fun!

Red light runners are always a worry. Glad this one didn't do too much damage to you!

The bike can be easily replaced, you not so much. Heal up and ride another day.

Dang! Glad you're alright! Thank goodness he saw you and hit the brakes! Even with the binders hit hard, a T-bone would've really screwed you up me thinks!

Thanks for the great sentiments from people I don't even know...

Blessings on ya!

Glad you faired pretty well, better you hitting them than them hitting you from the side and take your leg out, I always worry abou red light runners.

Bike is totaled. Time to heal and then back to lookin' for another.

Right hand broken in three places; right ring finger broken at joint next to palm. There's a pin in until the parts fuse and heal.

Had surgery last Friday, seven weeks healing, and then rehab.

Crap.

But at least you'll heal. better than losing the hand, I suppose. I'm sorry it will take a while before you can ride again. Have you figured out if/what you'll be getting with the insurance money?

Or seven weeks of bike shopping? Of course seven weeks of riding is better but it could have been worse. You'll be healed just in time to settle with her insurance company and get a new bike. Of course then you have to go through all the farklization again and all that. Oh well. As long as you get back in the saddle this story will have a happy ending.
