Broke bread with Rob and Marie this morning and had a tearful goodbye before I headed out on my own but they were good tears at the joy of time spent together.
Many times when out on my own I feel humbled at the gifts that are presented to me along the way. Today was no different... I was treated to a dazzling array of sights and some incredible roads... NC209, NC208, NC226A (aka The Diamondback), 181, and 194... it filled my heart amidst the sadness for current events and for that I was grateful. Love to all!!
Beautiful morning on NC209… thanks to Mark/WheatonFJR for the suggestion!
Roads like this… All. Day. Long
Came around a bend and there was a huge field of zinnias that I turned back to snap a pic of… evidently, there are folks who seed wildflowers out in the middle of nowhere for travelers to stumble across when they venture to out of the way places and roads…
Clouds and sun made for a good pairing…
Waterfalls tucked away off the side of the road… almost missed them!
Heading to Little Switzerland through the tunnel…
Deerlick Gap Overlook…
Had lunch at the Little Switzerland Cafe which was yummy… then on to ride 226A, aka the Diamondback!
Fish Hatchery Rd which connects up between 126 and 181 near Lake James State Park…
So much to see and just right off the side of the road!
Arrived in Mountain City and to my digs for the evening, Prospect Hill, a lovely B&B in a home that’s been around since 1889 and is well preserved and rooms updated and beautifully decorated…
No restaurants nearby so Subway to the rescue... sat in the upper alcove of the house to enjoy my supper…
Comfy bed, sound of crickets outside the window, and peace and quiet resulted in a wonderful night’s sleep…
