Good luck. By now you should be close to 700 / 800 miles I would guess.

We are planning one in Florida on July 10 / 11th. But some of the guys I ride with only can go 100 - 120 miles on a tank of gas so I may just do it with one other S/T rider.

Hope you make it home safe and sound after an uneventful ride.

We had a great ride day both of us made it home safe. My total was 1070 miles in 19 hours 46 minutes. We had allot of stop time. The flying J at our turn around point had no time stamp, not even in the invoice number so we ate lunch there then went across the street to Loves and put 50 cent of gas in to get a receipt with time stamp.....We had over 4 hours of stop time bringing our average trip speed down to 60 miles per hour. I would have been faster by Mike is getting old LOL. Great ride.

below are facebook entries since I forgot everything this morning: :dribble:

SS1000 (saddlesore) 1030 miles 0200-2200 or 20 hours for >1000 leisurely miles (really) never rushed, cruise set for 10 over, 10 stops there and 10 stops back for fuel and taking breaks...mid point in Matthews MO lunch was 2 hours, dinner stop in Lincoln MS was an hour. At no time did I look at my watch.

Best riding shape in a year with lotsa riding to work up to the trip. It was a blast. Fun Fun Fun

<well 'cept for the contruction abrupt closing of the middle lane in Memphis, but I (just) made it in front of the truck brushing the construction cones>

Guess I'll have to make better time on the BB1500's (bun burner)...1500mi in 36 hours and the Gold is 1500 miles in 24 hours.

I should go next week since I'm in tip top riding shape

thanx all for your love and support in these "interesting" endeavors

At halfway point in Missouri. All is well.

Oh. Yes. On my Life's Bucket List is to eat a bacon cheese burger at the Flying J in Matthews, MO. Checked Off. ;-)

the jalepano fried ice cream at the Flying J at lunch was (hic...hic...ugg) really good...shudda went with only one scoop though) !!!

(no food issues, but thought twice about what and how much I ate and was conservative...drank lotsa water (ten .5l bottles), cherry zinc cough drops and spearmint certs rock; a banana the best quick snack at a gas stop...brought 5 of those...lunch was Flying J and dinner was KFC (somewhere in the middle of a piney forest in MS)

-------------------------------------

Rain: a bit in Memphis in the ziggy zaggy riding through the city which gave me pause and my shouting of the shortest prayers of my life like "Lord help me" and "Lord keep that truck over there" and "Lord get me through that curtain of water away from that truck's wheel" and "no Gators (retreads) Lord...I can't see and I can't stop!

Also Rain on return trip ... Saw More between MO and Memphis, but just a small shower and I was hot, so rain can be good to cool me off.

In the dark was just a bit of drizzle, but very wet roads to deal with through Mississippi after Jackson to Brookhaven.

No complaints really...everything was relaxing 'cept for the run through Memphis in the rain going (white knuckle) and the "incident" with the middle lane closing coming back through Memphis and almost missing going south on I-55.

oh CB on channel 19 truck channel rocks...I could ask and they would tell me traffic reports and weather reports where I was going.

it rained pretty good between MO and Memphis coming home, but truckers would say the mile marker where the squall ended...just a 5 mile long shower

I would say "hay, i'm the motor sickle going southbound and wondered how the weather was in Memphis...then I'd say I'm in a contest to ride 1000 miles in 24 hours, but ya'll do that every day. Everytime I'd get multiple truckers answer "oh ****,, really???" :yahoo:

--------------------------------------

yes home at 2200 hrs and yes, ah, AIW (angelic italian wifey) "missed me" (sitting waiting on the front porch) and greeted me...ah...very very nicely...last night I had more than an Iron Butt...bam bam zoom

OH OH OH...YES YES YES...CLEARWATER LIGHTS ROCK ROCK ROCK

seriously, I was never ever confident or comfortable riding the interstate in dark scary Mississippi before...now, totall secure as the lights light up the night

WELL DONE MIKE!!!!

:clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Sounds like it was a great trip. Any pictures? I guess just one of the interstate repeated over and over and over would be good. They still have construction in Memphis? Jeeze, it was like that too, including the rain and dark, when I did my SS1k back in September!

honestly, being my first and feeling somewhat intimidated going in, I only had my iPhone and took two pics...at the midpoint or 500mi and Memphis gas stop on the way back at 600 mi in. I'm not a big photo taking guy as I'm usually barely funcational brainwise to get through the day without thinking about photo opportunities. 51 yr old geezer now and all with luny tendencies (I'm bipolar!)

Both and only pics are of my beautiful Isabella...

Jeff's lovely wife Sonia met him at 1am and 9:30pm to take his picture for the start and finish in Biloxi. The comment I liked was her saying she wished Jeff had mentioned the bugs in his beard before she kissed him welcome home !!! :yahoo:

thanx dudes...

I think I have the bug...BB's and 48 states (at my own pace) are now added and on my current Bucket List.

mid point 500 mi and gas/lunch at Flying J in Matthews, MO (50 miles into MO from TN well south of St Louis)

Memphis gas stop 600 mi in - I was so tired or distracted, I didn't realize my finger obstructed the top of the lense

Good job guys. I'm glad you guys made it back safe and sound. Like I have read from many of the long distance guys on the Forum, after finishing your first SS1K the US does look smaller. It sure opens up a lot more rides when time is an issue. :D

Great news Mike, you did it! I'm setting out for the hotel in a couple of minutes-my SS1k leaves tomorrow morning at 6am.

Jeff says I need a new back tire...let's see...replaced with engine at 93k...ended SS1000 at 108k miles...15k miles on tire...guess I just might need a new one then

new tire sitting in garage as needed; huuuuuuuummmmmmm, no wear bars yet, but to me in rainy Looziana...that's waiting too long

well, even what ya *** really really hurts...ride safe and be careful out there,

Mike in Nawlins'

You got that right! USA now seems 'point and shoot' to any destination. Finished my first SSK on May 25 Manhattan, Kansas to Pocatello, Idaho. Per GPS was 1068 miles done in 1065 minutes (17hrs+45).

Man it feels sweet when you are in the zone. FJR talks. Used an Ipod Nano as occasional musical interlude and distraction--highly recommended. Saw 9 troopers along I-70 in Kansas, makes a fellow feel real welcome there. Keeping the long straight interstate safe for democracy. Escort 8500--highly recommended. Like to know where those emergency vehicles are...

Way to go Mike, already planning the next one. Yep, you've got it, but it's a fun disease...........enjoy. :clapping:

and Memphis always a B.............ch!

Congrats on the successful ride and welcome to the club. It is never as hard as it seems on paper and in your mind for the first one. Enjoy your plate, you earned it.

Congratulations state neighbors.....I bet since it's over, you probably feel you over prepared, at least I did. I think it probably goes better with a riding buddy.

I did it alone on one straight stretch of road. But now you guys can just bask in the shade a minute, and plan the next ones as you have already indicated you will do.

.

.

Noted on minimal pics.....when you are moving and have added pressure of doing something for the first time, the novelty of picture taking just doesn't factor in so much.

Great Job!
