SS1000 (saddlesore) 1030 miles 0200-2200 or 20 hours for >1000 leisurely miles (really) never rushed, cruise set for 10 over, 10 stops there and 10 stops back for fuel and taking breaks...mid point in Matthews MO lunch was 2 hours, dinner stop in Lincoln MS was an hour. At no time did I look at my watch.
Best riding shape in a year with lotsa riding to work up to the trip. It was a blast. Fun Fun Fun
<well 'cept for the contruction abrupt closing of the middle lane in Memphis, but I (just) made it in front of the truck brushing the construction cones>
Guess I'll have to make better time on the BB1500's (bun burner)...1500mi in 36 hours and the Gold is 1500 miles in 24 hours.
I should go next week since I'm in tip top riding shape

At halfway point in Missouri. All is well.
Oh. Yes. On my Life's Bucket List is to eat a bacon cheese burger at the Flying J in Matthews, MO. Checked Off. ;-)
the jalepano fried ice cream at the Flying J at lunch was (hic...hic...ugg) really good...shudda went with only one scoop though) !!! :blink:
(no food issues, but thought twice about what and how much I ate and was conservative...drank lotsa water (ten .5l bottles), cherry zinc cough drops and spearmint certs rock; a banana the best quick snack at a gas stop...brought 5 of those...lunch was Flying J and dinner was KFC (somewhere in the middle of a piney forest in MS)

Rain: a bit in Memphis in the ziggy zaggy riding through the city which gave me pause and my shouting of the shortest prayers of my life like "Lord help me" and "Lord keep that truck over there" and "Lord get me through that curtain of water away from that truck's wheel" and "no Gators (retreads) Lord...I can't see and I can't stop!
Also Rain on return trip ... Saw More between MO and Memphis, but just a small shower and I was hot, so rain can be good to cool me off.
In the dark was just a bit of drizzle, but very wet roads to deal with through Mississippi after Jackson to Brookhaven.
No complaints really...everything was relaxing 'cept for the run through Memphis in the rain going (white knuckle) and the "incident" with the middle lane closing coming back through Memphis and almost missing going south on I-55.
oh CB on channel 19 truck channel rocks...I could ask and they would tell me traffic reports and weather reports where I was going.
it rained pretty good between MO and Memphis coming home, but truckers would say the mile marker where the squall ended...just a 5 mile long shower
I would say "hay, i'm the motor sickle going southbound and wondered how the weather was in Memphis...then I'd say I'm in a contest to ride 1000 miles in 24 hours, but ya'll do that every day. Everytime I'd get multiple truckers answer "oh shit,, really???" :yahoo:

yes home at 2200 hrs and yes, ah, AIW (angelic italian wifey) "missed me" (sitting waiting on the front porch) and greeted me...ah...very very nicely...last night I had more than an Iron Butt...bam bam zoom

seriously, I was never ever confident or comfortable riding the interstate in dark scary Mississippi before...now, totall secure as the lights light up the night
