I removed the plastic and front cowling today on my '06 today.

I disconnected a couple of electrical plugs before I disconnected the battery.

I reconnected all the plugs first and then the battery.

Battery is good. Checked all fuses, the 50A, both 30A and all those in the fuse boxes.

When I turn the key, nothing energizes.

Anybody got any idea of what is wrong?

Did I fry my ECU?

How can I tell?

Any advice on troubleshooting?

 
Did you make any sparks? If not nothing to worry about as far as theECU goes. But, if the bike was fine before you started working on it then you must have left something undone. How do you know the battery is good?

First rule of thumb -

Work backwards. Double check each step you did - one thing at a time.

The first place I would look is the neg battery connection.

It's something simple - and you didn't fry your ECM.

 
No sparks, no smoke, etc. I know battery is good because 1) I just had it fired up last week, 2) electrics worked before I pulled the plugs out, and 3) I put a voltmeter across the battery and got > 12.7 DCV. Got conductivity across the fuses. Got power from the hot lead off the battery back to the negative connection. (There is an unswitched hot lead off the battery. I get the impression reading the Blue Sea power block threads that many folks don't know this exists. I didn't till yesterday.)

Any advice is appreciated.

I was really hoping there was a simple reset or a hidden double-secret fuse that I don't know about.

I will look for a missing connection. Really hope I did not break a wire.

At least I feel better sharing my frustration on the forum, was hard to sleep last night. Hopefully I will have good news one day.

I want to be back on the road by mid-March. Wife woefully predicted next ride will be mid-June, she knows thing I love most next to riding is taking them apart to farkle. Putting them back together always seems to come in third. I don't know if I can suffer the humiliation of trailering it over to the shop.

 
Go back and unplug everything and make sure you didn't plug one of them in wrong. Check each wire into the back of each connector by giving them a gentle tug, individually, to make sure they are all secure in the connector. If you still don't find the problem, start checking the connectors that you didn't touch. Keep looking and you'll find it. Electrical problems can be very tricky.

Try...

Disconnect the Battery again.

Go back to each of the connectors you disconnected and double check they seated property and/or that no pins are pushed back - thus not allowing for a good electrical connection.

Focus on what you touched before the problem occurred.

Check both ends of both battery wires. Something is not connected and it is likely the ground.

 
If you haven't already; pull the plastic and cowling back off, and recheck all of the connectors and make sure they are reconnected. Also look for a connector you inadvertantly popped off and didn't notice.

Did you disconnect the automatic windshield retract connector located under the dash behind the speedo?

 
Check the main fuse. The one between the battery and the FJR fuse block (not the Blue Sea).

Though you said you didn't "spark" anything, check that fuse just to be sure. Its there to prevent any smoke escaping....putting the smoke back in is really really troublesome and expensive.

 
If you get nothing when you turn the key, then it has absolutely nothing to do with the ECU - an ECU issue would only affect whether it starts and runs. You've either got a blown fuse or something disconnected. There are good troubleshooting charts in the manual, but basically you need to trace power from the battery to the ignition switch. Don't worry, it's something simple.

I would suggest you check the connection of the positive lead where it attach's to the starter solenoid, I would also check the end of the ground cable where it is attached to the frame. Have you tried jumping the bike with another battery? Try checking the battery voltage by putting one lead on the positive lead on the battery and the other on the frame of the bike; if you don't get a reading of 12.7 as you did with your reading across the battery you have a bad ground. You didn't say if you were getting any lights at all , I assume you have nothing. I would also suggest you put the meter across the battery and have someone turn the key on, see if there is any change at all on the meter, if there is you are probably dealing with a corroded connection. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. GOOD LUCK!
