Well now you really have a problem no electricity and stuck at home.

If you tried what everyone suggested and still have not found the problem here is another suggestion For you bike being an 06 and your battery showing only 12.7 volts indicates a very poor battery. You need to check your battery (1) a load test to see if it will sustain a draw of amps for a certaim amount of time, your test equipment will tell you what it should be. If your battery is good than this might happen but you would have to ask a tech for sure. when you unplugged it you may not have done it correctly and some or maybe all of the memory was erased on your computer just an idea. You should always disconnect your ground first than than the postive than your connection and reverse the procedure when reconnecting. electronics are tempermental .......... " Jist like a woman"

please let us know so we do not make the same mistake.

Your battery should be reading at least 13.5 volts to 14volts I say you have a bad battery, you have voltage but no amperage to push the volts

FJRSki,

Any progress? I work close to your listed location and would be happy to pop by after work to lend an extra pair of eyes/hands. PM me if you want to pursue this. It beats hauling it to the shop ;) .

No, no, no. 12.7 is a very perfect voltage for an idle battery. 6 cells at 2.1 volts each yields 12.6 volts. 13.5 - 14 is what the regulator puts out when the bike is running to charge the battery.

I doubt this. The ECU firmware is just that - firm.

You might want to rescind that before an EE jumps on you! Technically, it's the other way around, but no matter what, you can't have one without the other, assuming the rest of the circuit is consistent. Ohms Law. Word.

True dat!!

There is another thread with ignition switch failure with similar symptoms, another thing to check.

I believe a battery cell will hold a max. of 2.5 volts--2.5x6=15 and you can have one with out the other

For a battery that new and only register 12.7 and not under load I see a failure real soon

If ohms law works for ac than it must work for dc the same way

Remember it is electricity it can fo what it wants

MOTORCYCLE IS ALIVE AND RUNS WELL. STUPID ME

First of all, let me thank everyone for the advice and encouragement.

It was a bitch of a week at work and I had no spare time to work on bike or check posts.

Second, there is NO SPARE HOT LEAD coming off the battery like I said in an earlier post.

I was out in the garage freezin my bippie off for about 10 hours last Saturday, and I guess I just never saw the missing link.

<<No take look in the mirror jokes, pleaze>> I tried hooking everything up twice and failed both times. Was frustrated and cold. I spent an hour looking at the schematics in the sservice manual during the week and couldn't find that spare hot lead. SO when I went out into the garage this morning, it dawned on me. GO BACK AND CHECK ALL THE CONNECTIONS IN REVERSE ORDER. There was no spare hot lead. When I connected that lead, everything lit up. It only took me 15 minutes to find the problem, and I got so excited it took me 45 minutes to find the damn keys.

As far as the battery voltage debate, I have an ChE background and worked for a large battery manufacturer 20 years ago. I should be able to tell you what the theoretical full change is on a battery, but hey, they get cold too. There was more than enough of a charge there to turn here over. Thanks everyone for the advice. I sure learned a whole lot.

Now if any of you want some advice on removing plastic, I got the whole front cowling off for painting.

And now that my FeeJR runs again, I'm wonderin' how she'd perform as a naked bike...

Will try to post some pictures when work is all done

Whew, glad you got it fixed. Mine is currently in pieces, I have nightmares about it not working when I finally get around to putting it back together.
