Long story short- I have been out of work for almost two years, assisting in the care of my Father in Law until he passed away recently. I need good benefits, PTO, and stability.

TIA for your comments!

Greg

I'm still on the unemployment rolls, interview almost daily. But what I did was start my own lawn business, it's a blast and I'm making almost more that I did working for the stiff shirts. PLUS I'm the boss, I like working for ME, it is hard to stay motivated at times, but it's really low stress. AND when I get a bad customer, I just don't work for them anymore! :)

Yes I will take the first job offer that makes sense. I have some relatives that do lawn care, and do pretty well, so that may be my fall back position next spring. LOL.

One of my guys just met a 22 year old kid who is a district manager at Taco Bell. Makes $68k/year. They're out there...

Yeah, it finally seems like there are more decent jobs with decent pay. I am actually optimistic that I will find a really good job soon...

Hmmm 30 years ago after losing all I tried my hand at Allstate as an insurance agent... My brother-in-law was an agent for Allstate for over 30 years. My experience with Allstate; sales is sales. If you cannot take "rejection", big time, try the lawn care business or restaurant mgmt. Yes, although the hours are long, the restaurant business (McD's, etc. pays managers relatively well and with good benefits. Retail, Costco, same story. My wife worked for Costco and did almost every job in the warehouse except warehouse manager. (She didn't want to 'relocate' that much..) Eventually worked as an internal auditor (50% travel) , making over 80k a year with fantastic benefits. Hard work, nights, weekends, dealing with 'members' in the warehouse. I ended up driving truck for 25 years, in one of the last 'union' jobs left. Now there is a lousy job JMHO. But, drivers can find work anywhere. It often is for minimum wage until you 'pay your dues'. Retired just in time. Hey, consider moving to/or working in North Dakota in oil and gas. Bottom line, you do what you gotta do. Save a lot, you are going to need it in our 'New Normal' country. Good luck!

I did restaurants for a long time, and the hours suck if you have kids, which i do now. The Allstate job is an inside claims rep, so no direct sales involved.... Trying to get in at Vanguard as well, it is just progressing slowly...

I feel ya man! When I lost my job 2 yrs ago I found loads of good paying positions (industrial maintenance mngmt, electronics, etc) but quickly became frustrated b/c even though I went on scads of first and second interviews things seemed to crawl at a snail's pace.

Good luck! Keep cool and it'll come your way.
