Welcome.......Dogger is Skinny Dave... Dave are you riding the R6, or the evil gixxer 1000??? How did you get the name dogger anyway??? :p Smitty

Am I allowed to be here  The FJR police won't be at my front door tonight, will they? Just wanted to say that I'm looking forward to another southern run and seeing everyone again. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this time. Smitty picked himself up a real nice blue FJR. I think he's going to be alot happier back on the FJR. Hope everyone can make it. See ya Friday,

dogger
Oh also, I've already seen more words in your first post than I heard you speak all weekend. You're a regular chatterbox online... ;) :D

I doubt i can make it... So the rain will stay away, I am sure of it! ;)
Welcome aboard Dave! :)
Thanks, I have a feeling that there will be many more rides planned.

Is this dogger Dave? I won't be there this time to slow you down but I'm sure the rest won't mind. :D
You would be surprised how much smoother and faster (which I believe relates to also being safer) everyones riding progressed through the weekend :clapping: The rain sucked no doubt but I know for me you gain a whole other level of respect for your bike and trust in your tires when riding in it.

Yeah, I'm not much of a talker.

Dogger, I don't think you need worry about the FJR police. They aren't ready to deal with a STORM TROOPER.

Here's Dave on his other bike:

Sweet!!!

Hey boyz! I'm just back from the Blue Ridge Mountains where the new Beemer performed flawlessly over the 2100 miles in 6 days. The only casualty was my cell phone, which was run over by a truck, but that's another story! The Kentucky/Virginia roads were awesome and we had a great time, camping at the Willville Bike Camp, which I would highly recommend.

Unfortunately, since I just returned from a six day trip, (which my wife says was "too long"), I'm not going to be able to make this trip with you. :(

Smitty, I am anxious to get back on the Feejer though, so if you have a day trip from your house planned in the latter part of the month, please include me. Got any pics of that new ride?

For a few moments today it looked like I was going to be able to go... then the call came in about another computer issue at our St Louis office. Looks like I'll be heading off to St Louis for the weekend instead of Arkansas.

Oh well, have fun guys!

Leaving tomorrow AM for Anglers in Arkansas. Looks like good weather.

See you guys there.

Chester

Wish you guys could join us. My camara is packed... We will have another service day, and ride this fall. Sometime late Sept, early Oct.....Everyone plan on making it to Hooterville, Mo

Well boy's you missed a GREAT!!! weekend of riding... Almost 1000 smiles for me, more for everyone else. We road about 400 rain free miles on sat. We left Allison Arkansas around 8:30 sat. morning and 11 hours later we all made it back to the lodge where we were staying. Only one off road run off by Pat, but he did a fine job of keeping it UP... but there was a funny smell coming from somewhere.. We seen lots of wildlife, one dog played hell with my rear tire on the way down. Rear was locked up (I know if I only had ABS) slidin all around but didn't hit him. Seen lots of deer, and for the first time in the wild.. a black bear,YES a BEAR, ran out in front of me. It was one of the coolest things ever to happen to me while riding.

Weather was almost perfect, cool to start, not to warm in the afternoon...

I think everyone had a great time, and I can't wait to return there... Here are a few pic's...

HEY! I recognize a few of those places - I think?

Was that FJR easier on the shoulder there Smitty?

Hey, what's that I see? Sunshine at the overlook! Sounds like you had a great time. I will be ready for the fall run a couple weeks after CFO ;) :p

Just got back myself to Kansas City myself. Total ride was 1,123 GPS miles. Yesterday we went 399 miles by my GPS with a moving average of 52 mph but the other guys were faster. Everything that Smitty said about yesterday only more. I believe it was Hy 123 shown in Smitty's first photo that had some serious 10 mph signed curves and probably a realistic 15 mph motorcylce speed to negotiate. Most of the curves you could go through much faster than the signs indicated but these were damn close to on.

I went up hy 341 this morning after you guys went through and talked to the bunch of sportbike guys that were at the start of the road. They said that you had just left and that I should be able to catch you. I almost fell off the damn bike laughing at that idea. I did have two of them come by me a little later, pucks just about dragging going Mach III. They were locals and I believe they could have caught up with you. I only was able to watch them for a second or two before they were gone.

Outstanding ride, great companionship, more ******** than the outhouse in the photo could hold, and approaching perfect weather. Oh, did I mention the food at the Anglers Inn. Very good.

I did have about an hour of steady rain from east of Springfield to north of Springfield about 40 miles. I'm starting to enjoy this riding in the rain thing. However, as I was getting onto I44 W from hy 65 N, I hit the throttle entering I44 and just at that time crossed over a white painted line and instantly the rear tire was spinning like crazy. Man those lines can be slippery.

For those of you who have not been to NW AR, get your but down there.

Like Roy Rogers said, "Happy Trails until we meet again"

Chester

Glad you all had a safe and fun trip! I wish i could have gone

It seems that there are alot of :pooh_go: lately, So i am glad i didnt see that :haha:

Next time guys, I WILL be there! :yahoo:

Just to make the trip more interesting for Pending, I dragged him down on Friday after I got off work. No, not the quick way, but the back way. The fun starts in Hooterville and never stopped until I got back home. :yahoo:

All those other little known or used roads in MO going to AR never disappoint. Pending even took the lead going down and started leaving me, doing a reported buck thirty! Those MO roads are just heaven.

Then there's Winona. 19 south of Winona into AR is a blast. Forested rolling woops. Shady and cool with great pavement and very little traffic. SWEET!

Finally, Friday night, we're on to 9 that takes us into Mountain View (well, it's Allison, next to Sylamore). You know, that road would be fantastic if the pavement didn't SUCK. Oh, and in the dark, it didn't get any better. And I got up close and personal with a deer. No fur, no foul... but the pucker factor was way up the sphincter scale. Then ANOTHER deer. Then ANOTHER deer. FORGEDABOUDIT. I've never nearly hit ONE deer on a bike, let alone 3 within 15 minutes of arriving at Anglers. SHEESH!!! (At least they weren't BEARS.)

Smitty, Dogger, KSFJR and Darrell were sitting in the Angler's swing telling tall tales and dishing dirt when we finally crossed the White River at about 9ish PM. Then Pending and I were off to the BW and the Pizza Hut for chow... with 20 minutes to spare before closing. :dribble:

Saturday AM we meet up at Anglers for a scrumptious breakfast (the food there is ALWAYS great). Then Smitty herds us up and leads us south toward Clinton, AR. Right off the bat, the roads are terrific fun. Eventually we end up in Oark. Yep, that's a town. There's a GREAT road going from it, but fair warning, you have to drive GRAVEL to get there. And I'm talking BOULDER gravel, not pretty white rock. But it's easily negotiated. And after that GREAT burger at the Oark store, we ran the gravel to get to that BEAUTIFUL stretch of road.

By Mid afternoon, Pending and I were starting to feel like croutons. Yes, TOAST. It's work following the Smith Boys and Dogger Dave. We went on just about every type road surface with about every style of ride you can imagine. And that was BEFORE lunch. Now the fun begins. I think Pending had a mishap (checking the ditch weeds) and so did I. It was a little tough to get back in the groove after that (not that I actually ever DID have a groove). Happy to report that I now know what "unloading the rear end" means. You know, I think I scared Dave, because after he saw my rear tire start to slide out from under my FJR, he passed me after I recovered. What's the matter Dave, was I getting outside your comfort zone? Or did you think we were going to join the Arma-roadkill-os smashed on the pavement everywhere? Let this be a lesson to you, boys and girls. LEAN! DON'T BREAK WHEN YOU'RE ALREADY IN A CURVE. And don't try to catch Smitty if you got no skillz. :poster_oops:

Finally, I got my 3rd... or 6th... wind, and we just kept on going. Dave put some hypno-whammy on Pending and we started making good time again. Maybe that R6 has a tractor beam. Whatever it was, Pending sure seemed to get it on when Dave was showing him "the lines". :punk:

Sheesh, what a LONG day. 400 miles may not seems like much, but an 11 hour ride is a lot. Especially for middle aged flatlanders in technical stuff all day long. Pretty scenery, perfect weather and CURVES CURVES CURVES. Uphills into the cool Arkasas sky, and downhills into the valleys and fields. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

And yes, Wheaton, you would have recognized a lot of places we went. And they were all dry. :yahoo:

At the end of the day, Crouton, the Gang and I went to the Anglers for dinner. Then back to the rooms and CRASH. No problem sleeping that night. Crouton quit snoring, he was so burnt.

Sunday AM, Crouton Pending is leary. Get-home-itus. Smitty wants to "do Push Mountain", whatever that means. He says it will add about 1.5 hours to our trip home. Pending is still leary... down right quiet. And of course, I say "We're here for the ride." A nod from Smitty, a shrug from Pending, and we're off. Pending in the lead (of me). I told Smitty and Dave we'd see them at the end of Push Mountain (whatever that means). Finally, we get onto the road, and there's Smitty and Dave talking to about 20 sporties, evidently just off the south end of "Push Mountain". Pending and I just keep going because we know that even though Smitty is off his bike sans helmet chatting with the sporties, there ain't NO way we can outrun him. Won't even try. And that road is FABULOUS. Nice sweepers with varying climbs and decents. Like a park inside, too. Very pretty country. And no traffic.

Few minutes later, Dave comes zipping passed on his 6 and then Smitty on his blue FJR. And they're gone.... COOL! :yess:

Now we're kind of back out into roads that are similar to rural MO roads.. sorta. To get back to MO, we have to essentially circle back south to pick up 9, then we reverse track and do the same roads back through MO up to Hooterville. Except A LOT more spirited.

Near the end, we stopped at Bixby for a bite. That's where I let slip that I didn't even hit the rev limiter in 4th gear, and shut down at buck thirtyfive on one stretch of road. That, friends, is the fastest I have ever been on the ground. And it was A B L A S T! :thumbsupsmileyanim: :thumbsupsmileyanim: :thumbsupsmileyanim:

A herd of sporties showed up at Bixby as we were finishing lunch. These guys and gals had some serious machines and ALL THE GEAR. An ASSAULT was pending those "MO Better Roads". :assassin:

I shouldn't even be telling anyone ANYTHING about how good the roads in Missouri and Arkansas are. I don't want them all clogged up, so I can continue to enjoy them. I WILL tell you that if you want some awesome roads, in beautiful country, don't bother with the Dragon, or Cherohala (although they ARE a blast, too). Come down to south central MO and on down into north central and NW Arkansas. You will NOT be disappointed. :D

Ya'll want to have some serious biking fun, get with Smitty. Smitty, thanks again for hosting ANOTHER great ride. You always make great routes, keep a great pace, and find cool spots to visit. The Angler's is quite a find, and a super jumping off point for the fun in Arkansas. :yahoo:

Now, Smitty, if you could just do something about your "animal magnetism". Dog's and deer are bad enough, but BEARS? You attract the craziest critters at the oddest times!! :shok:

Man, I'm sick about missing this one. I know those Ark roads are just as good, if not better, than anything I rode last week in Kentucky and Virginia.

Smitty, be sure to call me the next time you're planning a ride from Hooterville. I'll go along just to ride KK again on the Feejer with the short windscreen. That way I can open it up and don't have to worry about bustin' off that CalSci shield trying to keep up with you and Dave!

Thanks for the write-ups guys...

Sounds like a great time- didn't use up any rubber this weekend I suppose? ;)

And GLAD no crashes happened this weekend - that's always good.

Yeah, LEAN MORE in the curves - no brakey :dribble:

Easy to say, harder to remember when the buttpuckering happens

Take care you guys,

I will be taking my ky,nc,tn,va,wv trip starting this saturday am - be back home on the 19th

Nice ride report and pics, guys. I'm trying to keep track of where you go, for future reference. Hope to make it in Sept.

As for the deer-- now you see what I have to deal with EVERYDAY in NE Missouri. Even in the daylight. That's why I don't ride at night unless I absoulutly have to. And that's my excuse for riding so slow last time-- I'm a very defensive driver. B)

All you deer hunters "COME ON UP!!!!". Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out.

Pending and I ride all the way home.... being good boys on the slab. I got the cruise and the XM playing.. just loafing along staying slightly ahead of traffic... :p Got caught in a gaggle of left lane hogs near the end of the slab ride. I sees my chance and I takes it. Pending gets stuck. He's much smarter than me, and lays back to let the knuckleheads sort themselves out. Well, sir, I get out ahead, cut back on the cruise and wait. And wait. And wait. And wait.

About 10 miles later, here comes these pair of headlights, approaching rapidly. Then WOOOSH!!!!! After the air settles, I speed up to go after him. Guess he was making up for lost time. And of course, out in the middle of Illinois on late Sunday afternoon, in front of a log jam of stupid cell phone clad minivans and governed semis, the urge to use deserted slab is irresistable. So Matty wicks up the FJRocket! Can't go too fast, 'cause I have a square (shot) front Pirelli (cupped or flatted.. not out of balance, Smitty... :p ). Might have been doing a buck, though.. maybe..

Anyway, all this happens in a matter of just a few seconds. No sooner than I get to near a matching speed, Mr. HARD lights off like there's no tomorrow!!!. BINDERS!!!!!! Now there's just enough distance ahead to Pending that we know who's nailed. DAMMIT! I'm in the back, and we FJR guys all look alike! CRAP. :angry2: I finally see LEO coming down the other side in traffic. I set the cruise at 65ish and wait to see what happens. Finally, back in traffic, I decide to wick it back up to normal FJR speed, and finally catch up with Pending. I give him a look, and I can see his big eyes in his helmet, and he's checking 6. Nothing. :yahoo:

We make a break off the interstate to our turn off and head north. I'm laughing my ass off, and Pending is shaking his head in disbelief. Just on to Illinois 1, and start to pick up the pace off the ramp and BAM!!!!!!!! Mr. HARD lights off AGAIN like there's no tomorrow!!!!!!!!! OH NO!!!!!! We were right next to each other!!! CRAP! Got that sinking feeling again...

Pending doesn't even slow down until he's right next to the cop. I just wave at the local LEO and cruise passed him at about the limit. Yes, Dorothy, ABS works on BOTH wheels. And I'm glad we hadn't had a chance to get up to speed. I laid back and waited again. Cruise on, just about the limit. Nothing.

Up in Paris, IL, we stop for our goodbyes. I'm still laughing and Pending tells me his side of the story. He didn't brake until he SAW the trooper go by on 70, and didn't even know anything about the local using his radar.

Yes, fans, Mr. Pending accidently shut off his HARD and had NO idea that he had gotten zapped. Instant on. One hit. Both times.

Pending will tell you that the HARD system doesn't work. That is, not if you don't have it turned on. Pending, you must be living right. Oh, and get some duct tape for that on switch, would ya!! ;)
