I just picked this up today. :yahoo: The bike actually had 402 miles on it, less mileage than I thought. I ended up getting it for 3K with an extended Kawi warranty and he even threw in a really nice aluminum loading ramp. Man this thing is fun! Not really enamored with the color but, oh well. Its so radically different than the FJR and the VFR it took me about 10 miles to get used to its quirky torque and bicycle-like stopping power but I'm actually surprised at how well it handles in the twistys. Can't see a damn thing in the mirrors with the vibration but it cruises right along at 65 on the highway without a problem. The windshield even works! Now its time for the farkling......skid plate, pelican side cases, radiator guard, upgraded shift lever, new tail rack, etc....Now, unless I put an extension on the garage I'm done for a bit.

Congrats on your new bike! I have an '05 KLR and I agree 100%...it's a blast to ride. There is a huge amount of after-market support for the KLR...I've farkled the hades out of mine. There are some pictures of it somewhere on this site...

Congrats on the KLR. I have an older '01 but what a blast. Makes a great winter bike.

(We met at the Rhody Rally I believe. I was one of the two from Nova Scotia.)

Ah yes, the Rhodyrally.....Did you guys ever make it home for Mothers Day?

I'm going to be picking your guys brains at some point about farkling. I've been hanging around the KLRforum trying to absorb as much info as possible. Riding it this evening I did notice one small problem, the bike will only start when it is in neutral. Must be something to do with the switch near the clutch or the kickstand switch I'm not sure. I don't have time to mess with it because I'm out of here early Saturday morning for a ride through CT.MA, NH, VT, and ME (on the FJR of course). I figured since everyone else in the free world is at WFO the roads should be nice and clear....

My brother picked up a brand new 2008 KLR650 today. He got it in LA for like $5700 OTD. I hear the 08 is radicallyt different from the 07. Enjoy that nice bike!

Effin'-A Axeman, sweet mochine @ a sweet price.

They do slip thru the twisties nicely don't they. And "lean in" takes on a new meaning when fresh off the FJR. Good luck w/ the farkling. Hitch that baby to your FJR and we'll play on some back of the back roads at EOM!

Congrats. You're gonna luv it!

Welcome to the flock you are now one of us. I have an 02 and it is my daily use bike. The FJR sits most of the time and I only use itfor trips and rides with buddies. In the last half of August I plan on taking the KLR on about a 7,000 mile trip to the Pacific NW and camping and staying in motels along the way.

You can easily do freeway speeds but if you do for extended periods keep an eye on the oil level and for city traffic they are great with the up-high visibility and maneuverablity. I did approx. 700 miles in 13 hours last September coming home from SD and with the Corbin Flat Seat that I had I could easily have kept on going I also took a 3 day trip around KS for about 1500 miles and with the stock seat, my butt was getting a little beat up on that one.

The following website is the FJRforum of the KLR world.

As for the mirrors, go to this companies website and then get to the KLR650 page and on the left side of the page go to Mirrors. I have these with the shock absorbers and have basically zero vibration.

By the way, great price.

Damn You Axe!

You stole my Idea

Sometimes less is more! I've been contemplating on buying a KLR or DR and think I'm gonna end up with a used KLR and a new DR.

Might trade the FJR for a Bandit 1250s as I just don't ride the FJR as intended. The Bandit with soft luggage and a top box will fill the purpose when the need arises.

Been perusing the ADVrider site frequently and getting the itch to travel some of our lesser known backroads.

Enjoy!

I wonder if you'll can help me out. I have an 06fjr and an 04 fz6 and I am looking at the 08 klr650. I don't know if I would go off road. I have never riden off road buy reading the dixie website has me wondering what I have been missing. The before mentioned bikes really complement each other and I wonder where the klr would fit in if i did not use it off road? Any insight? thanks

See my above post for the link to the KLR website. Lots of info there and they have one section dedicated to the 08 KLR. Now do keep in mind that these guys are somewhat biased but they will still be pretty fair. It really comes down to what do you want?

I have both and really think the two are a great combo. Smitty141 and a number of other people here have both. Each has its place. I must admit, in the world that I live in if I could only have one it would be the KLR but thats me and where I live and my needs.
