TURTLECREEK TWP. – A motorist who was lost and talking on a cell phone struck and killed a motorcyclist Thursday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lebanon post.

triggerAd(1,PaginationPage,3); Bradley Bachelor, 34, of Lebanon, died at Atrium Medical Center shortly after the 10:30 a.m. crash, said Lt. Anthony Lauer, commander of the Lebanon post.

Bachelor was traveling southbound on Stubbs Mill Road when the driver of a sport utility vehicle, Kristina Tadesco, 34, of Maineville, pulled out in front of him to turn onto Cook Road, Lauer said.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, tried to lay his bike down on the road in an attempt to avoid being struck. To do this, motorcyclists usually slam on the rear brake and lean to one side to purposely take their bikes down so they can slide away, or at least suffer less serious injuries. The two vehicles collided anyway, Lauer said.

Tadesco, who was not injured, told troopers she was lost and talking on a cell phone. She was trying to return to her Maineville home from Clinton County and became confused how to detour around Ohio 123, which is closed in the area for construction, Lauer said.

The crash remains under investigation. Troopers plan to take the case to the Lebanon City Prosecutor’s Office on Monday for review, Lauer said.

The incident is a “perfect example” why motorists should not talk on cell phones or text while driving, he said.

“It’s a crash that could have been avoided,” Lauer said.
accidents happen, cell phones or not, but perpetuating the myth of 'laying your bike down' irritates me.

I wonder how they determined that's what he tried to do, as opposed to just that's what happened because he didn't know how to brake and lost control? A little editorialization of the news reporting?

And there are guys out there who still think the front brake is dangerous.

Condolences to the motorcyclist's family...and a curse on the reckless and oblivious cell phone talker operating equipment in the public way without due regard to other's safety.

Not that it may have made a difference, but those that taught this man to "lay it down", instead of maximum braking and control...may have contributed to his death.

Not long ago, I attended a safety clinic put on by the local P.D. They showed us pics of an accident where a sportbike, with a squid in full linear showoff mode, put down 400 feet (longer than a football field) of rear-wheel skid mark before hitting a car that had pulled out and killed himself. He had family members following him home from just picking up the bike.

I guess it'd be darn near impossible to lay down my ABS bike, so I just go ahead and use the front brake too, mostly....

RIP to the rider. Prayers to his family.

Use the front brake people. You have a much better chance of stopping or avoiding if you still have the tires on the road. The person that taught this man that technique should be ashamed of themselves.
