Another Z6 bites it

Yeah, I got a suggestion. Just bite the bullet for a couple of ben's and change and get some tires. Just for peace of mind and piece of ass (and leaving them both intact).

Well, if in fact anybody DID notify Metzeler about the problem and it's still happening, then how about you guys that had a problem and CAN DOCUMENT IT filing a complaint with the NHTSA and get some movement on the issue. This will do a lot more than just beating your chests here on the bulletin board.

Here's the link again;

Any blood sucking leaches, I mean lawyers on the board?

Can you say Firestone? Ford?

I would love for Yama to buy me some Pilots.

From all the posts on the separation, has anyone noted the date/run code on the tires for a link in production?

make note (and pics) of your tires before you ship them off never to be seen again!

I would like to hear the replies now from the people who thought that the Z6's were the cats meow. With this kind of grief I wouldn't go near a Metzler for the FJR.

IIRC, our friend Pierre Sousa-Lima in Portugal reported the first problem while he was on an extended trip on Mainland Europe maybe 2 years ago. Are more Euro riders having this issue (I don't get on Joos' board much anymore)?

Metz Z-4s and Z-6s, some people love'm....I. B. Chikkin. :D Loved my P.R.s and I'm enjoying my Pirelli Stradas.

I wonder if the Pirelli Diablo Stradas have the same problem? The Metzelers and Pirellis are built in the same German factory.

I've got a free front Strada which will be installed later this year. Comments on the Stradas?

I read that also. I dunno if they are "exactly" the same tire with different sidewall marking, or if they share tread design (tire mould on different casings) or whatever???? I have a set of P.R.s waiting in the wings.

These reports of numerous problems with Metzler Z6's is news to me. I'm not saying its not a real problem - but I have to pose an obvious question. If it is so well know, why is Yamaha equiping their bikes with Z6's from the factory with them? Would Yamaha really expose themselves to this kind of risk (as Ford found out with Firestone) if the problems are so well known?

Just curious.

While I cannot (and won't attempt to speculate) comment about the long term durability of the Strada's I will say this:

The Stradas are the best feeling tires that I've had on my FJR yet. I've had 'Stones, Metz's, Avons, and even a Dunlop on the front. The Strada's feel better than all the rest, hands down. And as an added benefit, the 40-44 mph "slapper" action that some FJRs experience (especially when combat loaded) is nearly gone w/ the Stradas...something no other combination of tires has been able to accomplish for me (YMMV).

DISCLAIMER: I don't work for Pirelli, I don't give a rat's ass what you wear on your wheels.

Even so...

Ford....Jaguar

VW...Porsche

Sometimes it's just not the same product as its sister.

But again, I have no idea if my Stradas are going to go into molecular failure on US 6 in NV...but they feel good so far. <fingers crossed>

Where's FJRandy when you need him to extoll the virtues of the Metzelers?
:p
It wasn't FJRandy...it was plain old, purple head, Randy. iow - me

I've seen enough. I was fooled by the hype that it was a very limited run that experienced the problems and they fixed it since we haven't heard anything in quite some time. Now this. I may be stubborn, but, I'm also man enough to say enough is enough. The Z6s will be replaced shortly.

happy now?????

Nah - Cheng Shin. I think JC Whitney has them on sale for $14.99.

Seriously...even though they are the same company, I might give the diablo strada's a shot. Or, maybe I'll really cave and give them Avon's a shot. I asked my Avon lady if she has them and she didn't know what I was talking about, but, I did get a smokin deal on some bath salts.
