Last spring I bought a Burgman 400 for my wife. . . . she crashed it last fall. I didn't mourn the loss.

God, I hope you mean you lost the Burgman.

Anyway, I've got a 20-year old Honda Elite 150 that's a lot of fun in town and gets about 95 mpg. No, it's not a motorcycle. It's got funny little wheels and you have to sit like a debutante at the prom with your knees together, but it's tiny, fits anywhere, light, easy to wheel into that spot between the dumpster and a wall or anywhere else you want to stash it for a while while you run errands, cheap to insure. I like it fine. Want to race? Forget it. If I were getting a bike for the back of a camper, it would be a small, light scooter a lot like this one.

Well here's something to think about. I recently heard the average price for gas across Europe is now approximately $9 per gallon. When gas prices in the US eventually get that bad don't be surprised if you see scooters start out-numbering motorcycles, especially in the cities.

Motorcycle ego's aside, sometimes reality has a tendency to smack you upside the head, especially when it gets to the point where you find yourself filling up your favorite SUV or Truck two or three times a week... for $350 per fill-up. And folks... we're well on our way! Better get your scooter on order now!

And for those of you with big bike ego's, if it makes you feel better, order yourself a GXSR-1000 sticker for it! :fool:

We bought my wife a Vespa GTS 250 and I have taken the bike up to 92mph without any drama. Granted I was over 9000rpm at the time but they are great for running around town and it will hold as much as the FJR. We added a customer seat with gel pad, a tall windshield, a front rack, a top case, a aftermarket muffler and a Corsa chip. It is fun and easy to work on and we put on about 7000 miles on it this last year. Her car sits at home and I cannot get her off of that thing. I think the Vespa 250 is the best choice for weight/performance and I am sure it would fit on the back of your motor-home nicely. We ride 2-up on the freeway and it is always around 80 MPH in the car pool lane with no problem.

You would be looking up from the ground if we were in person. Anyway, my wife rides on the back when we ride 2-up. On Sunday mornings on the way to brunch she rides the Vespa and I take the FJR.

Sorry, I couldn't resist, and it's true. Wife spotted Big-D's white Bergman from across the room and was suddenly interested. Leaned over my shoulder for a better look and asked all kinds of questions. Quite a step for someone I have to cajole to get on the back of the FJR. She's had enough of the $75 weekly gas bill to feed her Ranger for the work commute.

I'm now actively seeking one after agreeing to ride ***** with her until she becomes road comfortable on it. We'll see how she does in the school parking lot solo first though...

Better than I gregory, best I managed was a buck five. Never worried much on the highway either.

As for the rest...

The definition is pretty simple, and the same in most states: 50cc=scooter. Anything bigger is a motorcycle, regardless of wheel size or transmission type. I beginning to wonder how many of you consider the AE a true motorcycle.

Amen to Dekkerd. I always wonder what the person(s) beside me at the red light are thinking when they don't see my bike's clutch lever. Then light's green>>I'm long gone.

Over triple today alone, but wouldn't it be fun to run with a "junior bike" at speed!
