Only one way to cope with this.

You must find some growing green, harvest it, and rub your balls with it!

Trust me. If you have a problem elsewhere with the exposure, it will never burden you again in the same area.

I'm all itchy after this little dirt bike ride...
Yamafitter,

I do not, but a good pharmacy does have what you need. There are a few excellent "cures" available. Do not accept calamine lotion or Caladryll, which are fairly useless and do nothing to fix the problem. There is a special soap to wash the rash, and a "total cure" lotion that will make you wonder what all the fuss was about. I can't find the names right now, but the pharmacist should know them. Call around locally, if you don't get good advice; some local pharmacy will know what they are doing there.

Immediately, wash the area with alcohol, then soap (Dawn dish-washing soap is good). Then use the special soap from the pharmacy, if available. If you have been scratching, use a nail brush to clean under the fingernails, then throw the brush away. Any new exposures will just create more (maybe worse) problems, for now. Steer clear.

Looks fun, but not sure if it would be worth getting a bad case of poison ivy!

The main way to stop getting affected by poison ivy is to shower one to two hours after exposure making sure to scrub any affected area with a washcloth. The oil from the plant is what causes the irritation and is difficult to remove if you don't scrub. Unfortunately we had a bbq after the ride so it was too late by the time I made it home and got completely cleaned up.

The Ganaraska Forest is one of the few spots we have close by that have decent trails that we can ride. With the weather we had and with the forest being sandy there was a bumper crop of poison ivy this year. You just have to be aware of it and it normally not an issue unless you do something dumb and end up rolling around in it. Fortunately I have some very effective steriod cream from the last time I had an issue with poison ivy and the symptoms are already subsiding.

Thanks for the tips though.

I've had it so bad that the skin peeled off to the bone...

only "cure" for me was time...

I get it in small patches all summer long. It normally gets worse for about a week, then takes another week to clear up. I usually just use witch hazel, which helps with the itch and doesn't smell as bad as most of the over the counter remedies.

There is no "cure" but there are treatments.

Heat is your enemy. Keep it cool. Cold showers. No baths (the oils float and spread).

There's a powder that you can mix in water that you then use to make cold compresses. It's called Domboro. It's magic. It will dry up any of the rash spots in short order.

I'm hyper sensitive to the family of poison oak, ivy, sumac and have been hospitalized for it as a child. It caught it in the dead of winter (when it's not supposed to be a problem). I don't have to contact it; just it's area; maybe it's the pollen or something; I'm that sensitive.. They started me on the allergy shots and I caught it from those. They had to half the dosage and double the duration between shots and I still caught it. (So I know of which I speak.)

I was even allergic to calamine lotion. It irritated the rash and made it itch even worse.

So: Keep it cool/cold, keep it from rubbing on clothes, don't scratch (it spreads it and can lead to infections), Domboro.

Hop in a heavily chlorinated pool and sit there with a case of beer, sum FortyC. Repeat several soaks/cycles to let chlorine dry in, stay outta da sun.

Done. And so will you!

Glad to see your riding style hasn't changed. How did you get your bike back up without your Mexican Cabana Boys there to help you?

I'm sorry, I know nothing about Poison Ivy. I can tell you how to pick cactus out of your butt cheeks, but PI is foreign to me.
