Been getting real tired of 18 MPG in the Passat GLX (mostly around town miles) so I've been shopping for something a bit more efficient... Got a new Accord Coupe EX-L NAVI on the way (hold the 'secretaries car' comments, I'm going for 30% fuel cost savings). Wanted the Silver job with a 4 banger and row-your-own box, leather and navsys - a very rare combo here in Cali as there were just 3 in the whole state. List, $26,800, I haggled 'em down to $22,675 - almost a grand under invoice - a damn near unheard of happening here for Hondas. Course, I have no idea what the hold backs 'n **** are on these things, but I'm sure they made something. Got almost full Edmunds retail on the trade-in, too. I swear, as I left the showroom, I heard the sales manager say, "Wada prick!" Sales people hate me, and I'm one of 'em! :D

Looked at Minis, A3's, A4's, 3 Series, GTI, MazdaSpeed 6, WRX STi, RSX, TSX among others (Yes, I prefer small cars - always have. Biggest I ever owned was the LS). The new 'B' class cars from over the other pond are interesting, but offer little in the way of luxury. At the end of the day, I went with cheap & reliable, with just enough luxury to coddle my aging *** in semi style. Plus, I'm scheming for another bike - Gotta justify that somehow, too! ;)

So, what kinda cage are you looking at (er, besides H2's, Groo :****: )?

Ain't looking for another cage. I got two, which is one too many already. What will prolly be going soon is my 97 F-150 4X4. Purty truck, but at 12-13 mpg, it pisses me off to drive the thing. Luckily, my FJR is my everyday vehicle, even in this hellish 110 degree heat. So I don't drive the truck much anyways. It is nice to have the practicality of of pick 'um truck though.

What I will be keeping is my '01 VW Golf. TDi - turbo diesel direct injection. As in 40-50 mpg. Hell, on one trip to Colorado at higher altitudes and on slower two lane roads, I once got 57 mpg. Got 800+ miles on that tank of gas. With gas prices the way they are, that car aint going anywhere. And with only 33,000 on it, its still in great shape. And paid off.

Now I would like another motorcycle..................

Beat me by 2mpg Skoot... got 55mpg in my diesel Jetta !!! VW diesels rock..... Fawken Honda BWAHAHA :p

TWN,

Great job on earning a good deal! I sold new Hondas for a while back in 2003 and just couldn't resist selling myself this 2003 Accord Coupe V6 6MT. Got great mileage!! And it did 70 in second gear. Totally loaded except for nav, with over $3K worth of accessories. $32K brand new. Close enough to a race car for me! Gotta love Honda!! Don't have it anymore but sure enjoyed while I did!

That's the ride I really wanted (or the Passat), but the ******' tree huggers here in La La Land, made 'em illegal. **** CARB and the dickwads what brought into being! :angry2:

Pardon my french. :D

That's almost unfair, cars getting better mileage than bikes. Well, more power to you, I suppose.

You're giving up anything for the sake of fuel economy, are you? Say, 0-60 times? :p .

That's why I have the FJR. Get my Speed Jones satisfied with the bike!

+1

It's actually quite pathetic. I drive my VW like a little old lady trying to squeek out the most mpg I can get. Can't even remember the last time it was even halfway to the redline. I will actually drive this car right at the speed limit. Something I thought I would never do. I mean, I am always doing at least 5 over.

Of course, with 33k in 51/2 years of ownership, I aint exactlly spending a lot of time in it. My FJR: 68k in not quite 3 years of ownership. You do the math. :p

I sold my '02 Accord EX V-6 and picked up an '06 Acura TL and earned 5mpg better in the trade. The Acura is a hard car to drive gently but the trip computer reminds me of my mpg and helps to drive better. I thought about a Prius or Civic Hybrid but was not ready to hand in my "twig and berries" just yet.

I try to ride in to work at least one day a week and the weekends when I have to go in. Makes the run into work much more fun. 11 monhts with the FJR and already 17,000 miles (smiles) :D

i've been wanting to take a look at the pontiac g6 retractable hard top. can't find one in bc so i called a dealer in calgary, had a wedding to go to anyway. sure we'll have several on the ground when you come.

forgot i was talking to a car salesman. i was actually expecting to see one.

maybe the gods were telling me to give my head shake and buy a nice practical subaru. ya, thats the ticket.

derek

I heard you might be able to hook me up with something along these lines Barn...

How about this Ford? I guarantee this is the most fuel efficient car on the market today. It won't cost you a dime on gas and won't get you anywhere either. ;) :p

I drive a VW Jetta with the PD TDI motor......I'm getting 61 mpg (Imperial gallons)on the hwy....makes me wonder why I used to spend so much on fuel before I had this car and its a blast to drive. Right at 60 mpg it revs 1900 rpm which is right in the meat of its torque.

Sorry Vulcan....it's still a ditch pig....I drive a 1st gen miata....supercharged, intercooled, slammed, bigger injectors, big brake kit....bla, bla, bla.....125kph cruise....41 mpg (imperial)....when I have to be an adult....for business.....Lincoln LS V8 sport....chiped, wheels. tires & air filter.....fuel economy....who cares.....& the Pig....92 full size Bronco.....302....300 hp (at wheels)....400 ft/lbs torque....10 mpg (imperial) around town....for toy towing....

Kinda funny how having a guy call you a prick can make you feel good. Times like scoring a goal, winning in poker, walking out of a dealership!

Way to go TWN, you got one of the good insults!

I use this when I'm just driving around the neighborhood, or going 1/2 a mile to get a quart of milk at the local Piggly Wiggly....

It only gets 2 miles per gallon, but that's ok... I own lots of Exxon stock. :****:
