Any FJR riders in Anchorage, AK? I have applied for a job there and could use some insight. Thanks.
Nope, but I worked there Nov-Dec of 85'. The bar atop Captain Cooks's was a nice place to enjoy a Long Island Iced Tea or two. Driving was actually easier on frozen surfaces, but we did get some "warm" temps around 30 or so and it ended up turning the roads into a slushy bumper car course. From what the locals say, June, July & August are the only months for riding. Not sure what you could do with studded tires, (plus grande whevous) etc.. but you might be able to extend that a bit. In any event, I'd guess that you'll have plenty of time for maintenance. Good luck up there, beautiful place, but watch out for the moose!Any FJR riders in Anchorage, AK? Isn't that kind of a long commute from Sac?Any FJR riders in Anchorage, AK? I have applied for a job there...
Last time I was in Anchorage there was a murder in the parking lot of 'Koot's after we'd left for the evening. But it was a blast while we were there! I think we'd left to move on over to The Great Alaskan Bush Company. 'Nuf said about that.A place to stay warm!

Say hi to Sarah for me....What makes it really special is I can keep an eye on the Russians from there!
B-b-b-but won't it be a rather looooong commute for Karen? Or will her new profession be chopping and splitting firewood, keeping the hearth going, starting the humidifier in the long cold winter, etc., etc. Thanks for the advice gang. With the governator's furlough days it just doesn't pay to work in Kalifornica anymore. So, why not work and experience Alaska for awhile?

I remember that well. Took a walk with our 2 year old on a sled in the woods near our place and slipped, we both went a couple of hundred feet on the ice bouncing off trees. Shit that hurt, (the kid did fine) and funny as hell later, much later. The weather sucks. Lots of clouds, actually not unlike living in London for a few years. One New Years Eve Eve, it snowed several feet. Then on New Years Eve it warmed up to about 40 and started melting everything. About 8 PM, it froze again and it was Holiday On Ice all over town!
