Don't know how many of you give a rats ass, and maybe this is a spoiler for some since the networks have decided on the stupid tape delayed results of the Olympic Games to "prime time" due to the time differential from Jolly Ole' England. But I am jazzed that Eaton, who broke the world record in the Decathlon in the US Trials in June has now backed that up with an Olympic Gold Medal.

Trey Hardee, another fairly young US Decathlete took the Silver with a nearly equally impressive score. And if Bryan Clay hadn't boned it during trials (long story) it would very likely have been a 1-2-3 finish in Decathlon for the USA.

I know that the event is somewhat difficult for many folks to understand. Most track people don't even get the whole thing. But it really is the only true judgement of a total athlete in athletics. No single event or skill can carry you through. You need to be able to do everything, and do them all supremely well, to win. Congrats to the two US medal winners.

Today, as an American, I am proud of them both (even though I don't know either of them from squatola).
