I have been slowly getting used to my new to me 2008 FJR1300A. Love the bike! My question is this...my 1984 Honda V65 Magna and my 1985 Honda Gold Wing Limited Edition both have auto-cancelling turn signals. After looking like an ***** the last ride on the Feejer with my signal blinking, I decided that something must be wrong with the bike. However, a look through the owners manual says noting about auto-cancelling turn signals. I can't believe that Yamaha missed this. Please at least tell me that the Gen III bikes have this feature.

Not that I know of. I just simply got in the habit of thumbing the turn signal switch every time I turn at an intersection. I do it sometimes now even if I didn't turn the signal on in the first place. Do I still leave a signal blinking for miles? Once in a while. Not a big enough blemish on this bike to make me regret it for even a second.

Nope...nada...nein...zilch...nyet...no way...ain't happenin'...not in the cards...unh-unh...

The designers at Yamaha assumed (rightly, I think) that most, if not all, FJR riders had a left thumb to turn the blinker(s) off, under the assumption that they used the same aforementioned left thumb to turn the blinker(s) ON. :p

An 08. The best year.

How embarrassing.

Please sell it.....

Wow...straight to NEPRT status! Okay then. I will start training the left thumb!
You're going to be really disappointed when you find out about the defective side stand, kamikaze windshield fasteners, missing 6th gear, or that you might haven gotten one of mis-shipped French de-tuned engines. I think the '08's were the worst lot at only 120 hp.

I don't expect to be disappointed at all. I love the bike. Just have to get used to turning off the turn signals. Even IF the '08 was 120hp, that is still 4hp more than the V65 Magna and 26hp more than the Wing.

Here's a great little secret that'll fix the problem. Ever get a pair of those dumb knit gloves for Christmas that ya don't know what to do with? Well, here's what you can do. Stick a little piece of velcro on the turn signal switch. Throw those worthless knit gloves on. After you hit the turn signal switch, like it or not, your thumb will stick to the switch. You'll never forget again.

There ya go.

Hi Chazglen3 and welcome to the nut house. Anything more we can't do for you here?

On a more serious not please monitor the Pacific Northwest section of this board. There is a great Tech session hosted by AuburnFJR in Auburn Washington usually in April/May and again in October. At the tech event you can do a bit of wrenching, kick tires and chew motorcycle fat with long time FJR owners. These tech sessions can help you make your FJR something really special, even if it doesn't have the magic cancelling turn signals.

The best reminder to cancel my turn signals is the Cardo ScalaRider comm system. If I fail to cancel my turn signal I get the sarcastic sound of Dear Old Dad through my speakers. When he wants it to, his voice can be every bit as pleasant as fingernails on a chalkboard. He really enjoys mocking my forgetfulness.

For $70 you can always install a Signal Dynamics self-cancelling turn signal module.

Followed your link, scrolled down to the self-cancelling doodad, I quote from its blurb:
Designed for use with individual momentary type turn signal switches mounted on the left and right handle bars. This unit will not work on bikes that have the left and right turn signal switch built into one unit that you must push to cancel.
Looks like it won't suit the FJR :( .

Nope ...

"This unit will not work on bikes that have the left and right turn signal switch built into one unit that you must push to cancel."

However, if you are really keen you could probably pick up a flasher module from a Yamaha Venture Royale (and a few others), and wire that in place of the OEM relay.

I think Kissan makes one for the FJR. I considered it and then decided I would learn to push the button instead. I had a (newer) Venture as well as a Yamaha Roadstar which both had self-cancelling signals. I'm not sure whether they would work on the FJR. It seems to me that the cancel was a function of both time and distance travelled so it wouldn't turn off with an extended stop at a light. For this, it would have to have some additional input (from ECU?).

Kisan works well-cancels after 40 seconds- button needs to be pressed to reset the signal for the next use. I don't want to be like some boneheads I ride with who leave their signals on for 5 miles..

I got the Kisan 'cause I do forget sometimes..especially when I'm distracted by something I see
