Totally agree, but the one thing I like about it is that its got that Auto-dark sensitive feature....

I might just order one and install it, see how I like it.... For the benefit of the forum if nothing else...

*** Edit***

Ordered.... lets see how it plays out...

That's an interesting idea. I mounted a small LED in the fairing of my ZRX, and they worked great. Except .... at night it was way too bright.

That one says it is self dimming in low light situations. Cool.
Exactly. I wonder if it's available in the US. Must check.

Edit:

I've sent an email. Will report back

Says it's available for International order. 39 UK Pounds = $60 delivered.

Should be able to do a lot of backyard engineering for $60.

Yeah. The small LEDs are cheap. If they're too bright at night maybe a small switch to just turn them off. Or black tape ;)

I don't see why Yamaha couldn't create a self canceller by using the gear change function. There is already an indicator on the dash that shows you what gear you are in. Why not self cancel with the first up-shift from your current gear, whichever gear that may be. It should work well since most people are unlikely to up-shift and increase speed to make a turn.

I've got auto-cancelling sigs on my Beemer, but I still use the ole thumb.

Past habits are hard to break I guess, heck, I still look down for the kick-start lever once in-awhile!

The best reminder to cancel my turn signals is the Cardo ScalaRider comm system. If I fail to cancel my turn signal I get the sarcastic sound of Dear Old Dad through my speakers. When he wants it to, his voice can be every bit as pleasant as fingernails on a chalkboard. He really enjoys mocking my forgetfulness.
So where do we purchase Redfish Dads?

I've also got cancelers on my RS but I still tend to cancel them manually also. The distance that they shut off by themselves is way too long. Theirs must be set up more on time and distance than on lean angle. If I'm riding in the city I could be at the next side street before they ever cancel which is still too dangerous and inefficient. I will continue to be a button masher myself for safety's sake. Will be interested to see how War's UK LED switch works out after he gets it mounted.

Not that I know of. I just simply got in the habit of thumbing the turn signal switch every time I turn at an intersection. I do it sometimes now even if I didn't turn the signal on in the first place. Do I still leave a signal blinking for miles? Once in a while. Not a big enough blemish on this bike to make me regret it for even a second.
Purdie much ^THIS^

Had me a pos Bring Mor Wallet, 'n them self cancelling turn signals cancelled too soon on freeway on ramps, 'n didn't cancel soon 'nuff in town. I just hit the button when I want 'em off. Simple. Though I seem ta recall mah old XS500 'n XS750 frum the '70s have'in self cancelling turn signals. :dunno:

My Goldwing cancelled too soon, and I'd wind up pressing it twice to keep it on in town. My old XS Yamahas took maybe a block to cancel, which was sometimes too long, but at least I didn't ride along for miles flashing I'm stupid ...... I'm stupid ...... I'm stupid ...... I'm stupid ...... I'm stupid ...... I'm stupid ...... I'm stupid ...... I'm stupid ...... I'm stupid ......

There were some GL1800 riders that disabled the self-cancelling feather because they didn't want to have to press it twice to keep it on but didn't mind pressing it a second time to turn if off.

Wouldn't be that hard to tie in some LED's to FL and FR power source IMO..... might be a good project...
Here's your solution applied to a ST1300. The reflection is in the rider's peripheral vision and plainly visible in daylight.

That's how it worked on my ZRX. The LEDs were down in the fairing and hard to see unless flashing. Then they reflected into the windscreen when flashing and were impossible to ignore.

All Harleys have turn signals and they are the best in the industry. Never on too long or short because they also take in consideration of lean angle and speed. They some how figured it out. Not having turn signals on any bike larger than a 250 seem backwards and cheap. FJRs finally progressed up to a Cruise Control, but not self-cancelling turnsignals?

I think I may speak for many here when I say...

I really don't care how good the Harley self-cancelling turn signals are because of what they come attached to. ;)

And I sold a Goldwing with perfectly functioning self-cancelling signals to buy this thing. What's up with that? ;)

LOL, you guys really are quite emotional.

I Love my FJR, but I didn't realize a Harley sitting next to a Yamaha in the garage was so intimidating to this group.
