Should the Autocom be connected to constant or switched power? I have the GPS connected to constant since I can turn it on/off. Is the Autocom activated when it detects a signal? If connected to constant power will there be any draw on the battery? Thanks!!

Autocom and GPS should both be connected to a fuse block...IMHO

That way you will never come out to a dead bike.

The Autocom is always on if its leads are attached to a power source. On mine, it has no build-in power switch.

Connect to the rear running lights. Blue wire in the tail. You can then decide if you want the GPS to be on the switched side of the fuzeblock, requiring the key to be on for the GPS to work, or, unswitched which allows the GPS to be turned on with the key off.

My Autocom is set up to switched power through an aux fuse block. That being said, if my memory serves me correctly, I think the Autocom literature said that it only drew power when the driver's umbilical is plugged in, in which case it wouldn't matter.

I'd hook it up to switched power in any case.

+1

Autocom only draws power when the riders headset is plugged in. With that side I still hooked mine to a switched power source.

I would hook it up to a unswitched power source. There have been plenty of times that I have shut the bike off and we still need to say something or it is convenient to do so like at quick fuel stops. Sometimes we plug in but I fiddle with the GPS for a few minutes or discuss the route till I crank and actually pull away. I have mine set up so that I plug a battery tender type plug into a "thru hull" fitting i mounted on my tank bag which passes power to the interior of the bag. All the autocom devices are in the tankbag. Just unplug the tender cable from the tankbag if you want it powered down.
