I got in to a little bit of a jam over the weekend, a long way from home and had to replace the rear tire. The tire is an Avon Azaro AV46-ST, size 180/55ZR17. At the end of last season I knew my tires were going to need replacing this season so late last fall I was able to buy a set of PR2’s at a good price. Since I have this set waiting I’m wondering if anyone would be interested in buying the Avon tire if I had it removed? Right now it was less than 400 miles on it. $125 plus shipping.

I ran a couple of those and really liked them, but now I'm a PR2 fan. (except for the Conti-Motion detour I'm on now)

Avon hasn't made those for a while I believe; what is the date code on that AV-46?

Bummer, if I had known I would have at least asked if they would sell it at a lower price. Either way I was in a jam and had to do what I had to do.

I just took a look at the tire and didn't see anything that looked like a date on it. What should I look for?

Yes, quite sure these tires were discontinued quite awhile ago. There was a day when I ran the Azaros exclusively. It was my tire of choice. Good luck with your sale. Personally, I don't think that I'd pay that much for a used tire.

Run the azero. Sunlight and ozone are what age tires the most. I wager the old azero is still stickier than a new PR2. On the rear I prefer the PR3 to the PR2. If the azeros were still made I'd run those. Simply amazing in the rain.

Since it's already on, why not run with it?
PR2 fan myself

I have to bring it in to have a new tire put on the front in the next couple weeks anyway. Since I have already have a PR2 for the rear and if someone was interested I would have the PR2 put on. If there isn't a buyer between now and when I bring it in I'll be leaving the Avon on to get my money's worth out of it.

Wow! One of my favorite tires for the FJR but they haven't been made for 5 or 6 years! Keep looking, the date code is on there.

Wow is right. Now that I know how long it has been since those were made and the picture C&C posted I did see the number. It's an 06, don't remember the week off the top of my head my bike is at home right now. Didn't think or hoped that wasn't the number since it was so long ago. I guess I'll be posting a technical question how old is too old for a tire.

That tire IMHO was the last tire they made that was worth anything. Just run it out and be done with it. You should like it pretty well.

I currently have a set on my 2005 and another set in the basement. Nothing wrong with the tires as they have sat in my basement where it's nice an d cool.
