I've had two sets of Storms on my 2006 and thought that the rear tires were great for my style of riding. However, both front Storms SUCKED and within a few thousand miles felt exactly like a knobby.

For the FJR1300, the Avon website recommends:

FJR 1300A / AS / AE

Front Tyres

» Storm-ST

» Viper Sport

» Viper Supersport

Size 120/70ZR17 (58W)

2.7 bar (39psi)

Rear tyres

» Storm-ST

» Viper Sport

» Viper Supersport

Size 180/55ZR17 (73W)

2.9 bar (42psi)

Has anyone tried the Viper Sport on the front with the Storm-ST on the rear?

When my rear comes off, I am done with Avon.
Too much guessing with quality control
Yeah, that's no kidding, but when you do get a good set they handle pretty nice and last a good while. I'm going to try something different with the next tire change and hope they turn in as good, or close to it. Probably go with the PR2s.

I just recently changed out my front tire. I was running an Avon Storm up front with the PR2 on the rear. . .

The Storm always felt squirrely in the corners and especially so on the tar snakes. Also, I had quite a lot of head shake. Of course it could have been the combination of mismatched tires or a bad balance, but all those problems went away when I put the PR2 up front to match the rear tire. Now it's as smooth as can be. I still miss the AV45/46 combo though.
