Planning on heading out Friday morning and riding the BRP in VA from the intersection of Rt. 56 south to Floyd. Will meander SE on 8 to pick up 220 and head to Greensboro for the night (staying with family). My plan is to head west the next morning and then pick up the BRP and head south and keep going until I feel like stopping for the night. Can any of you North Carolinians out there give me some input on what the leaves look like on the parkway. If they will not be that great I may choose a different route that doesn't have a 45 mph speed limit.

Oh yeah and anyone that wants to tag along is welcome.

We were up on the BRP last Sunday 10/27, between Hwy 151 and 215. The color wasn't that great. Suprisingly the trafffic wasn't that bad either.

Yesterday I was up around Hendersonville, slabbing on four wheels, and the colors made me wish I back up in the mountains. Don't know if I missed peak color in the higher elevations (before or after) or if the colors just weren't that spectacular.

So, this reply did you alot of good, huh?

Gotta go check out my tent and round up my heavy sleeping bag now. That Thanksgiving Day weekend ride thingy is just around the corner.

The foliage on the BRP may be getting thin at this point. We were on the BRP 2 weekends back and the colors were good. The lower elevations are full color (I am in Charlotte).

Thanks for the feedback. If the upper elevations aren't that great I can always bail and ride 221 or something.

Bob, I think all upper elevations are spent foliage-wise. I took my mom out leaf peeping yesterday & color was fairly decent around Williamsburg-ish.

Still green here in Norfolkianland where the elevation is 15.

Have fun... be careful. If I could easily take Friday off, I'd join you.

Since when do you pay any attention to the 45 mph speed limit on the BRP??? Does it really matter what the leaves look like at 70 mph?

Oh...and you know, if I could, I would. Ya lucky *******!

I didn't say anything about DOING 45 just that it is the limit. Besides, that section of 221 we rode last year was a blast!

I hear there's a good Hot Dog Stand in WV!!!
That is out of my way this time. Direction I am riding is planned around a family visit in Greensboro, NC. I have to get back there, though. And tip them to make them sing. What a hoot!
A friend of mine was down there a couple of weeks ago...now I have a T-shirt from Hillbilly Hotdogs.

+1 FYB

Which way are you going out, Bob... are you taking 64 to Ivy & dropping down thru 56? There is a slim chance that I could make it... but slim. Work load has lightened considerably. Gonna approach my boss today.

That is the plan. I am leaving early, though, as I want to ride the parkway all the way to Floyd and then take 8 to 220. I am spending Friday night with family in Greensboro. Satuday morning my plan is to slab on 40 to Asheville and then south on the BRP for as long as daylight allows and then find somewhere to stop for the night. Sunday is still unplanned. Probably head north to the Snake and then back into Virginia.

Me no likie to ride in the mountains alone... I've decided to wait until Turkey Weekend if I have takers that want to go.
