From a "design aspect" you're right. Carrying it through to the bags in some way would make sense. But I'm peculiar. People will scoff at this, but my "philosophy" is I HATE BAGS. Whatever you can do to minimize them I'm all for. To the point that I plan on eventually bead blasting my bags so they're not glossy, so they're that sort of satin black. I'm going to wait a few years until they pick up enough scratches from my wife kicking them when she gets on that I can't stand it any longer. Then I'll have them bead blasted. I know this goes against what most people think makes sense. Most folks think color-matching bags is cool, and when that's black, it's not so bad. But when you've got a light colored bike, that just makes your bags look BIGGER. Not my cuppa tea. That scheme would be very popular here in the "Copper City." How about just a splash on the bags?
yep I have my dark side and secrets...haven't post up in videos my fav sarcastic FU jingle on youtubeOK, Patriot...might be this one...Wow! I like!I got the bike back from Underground Colors here in San Francisco nearly a month ago, but hadn't taken a decent photo yet to publish until this weekend, when I was up in Napa Valley.
Pete the Painter at Underground did a great job. I've always liked the bold stripe stuff that BMW was using on some bikes like their Rockster and K1200RS, so I borrowed that. I mocked up a PhotoShop image for Pete and he just nailed it exactly, right down to the fade on the trailing edge and the bottom (which you can't really see in this shot very well).
I would have done the whole front of the bike including the upper cowling, but I wanted to keep it less expensive, and save myself the enormous work of pulling off that upper cowling. I'm happy with the compromise. It's kinda like getting a 2-tone for the price of a single-tone. To emphasize the "cheap" part, I painted the silver plastic strip on the bottom of the tank myself. Not bad for government work.
Hope y'all like it, and that it gives some other people an idea about how to do a little custom look on the cheap.
Chris
I've been thinking about doing something like that to my 05, BUT! it's BLUE!
I fell in love with copper and black Kawa ZX-14 at the Long Beach Motorcycle show last Dec.
