After going (3) years with any bikes, I bought my son and I new dirtbikes for Christmas and now the bug has got me good.....again! I've been telling wifey for some time now that my next street bike will be an FJR, you know, just in case she decided to surprise me, yeah right.

After lurking around here, I saw Tony's as on the '06 pricing and put down my deposit for a machine due in April. BTW, great guy to deal with, all was done in a matter of minutes.

Here's my questions and background info. My last mile eating bike was a BMW K1200LT with all the goodies. I like all the gadgets, but don't care for the "cluttered" look of having all that stuff (radar, radio, gps, etc, etc) hanging on the bars. I had the BMW conn system and all accessories were out of sight and integrated with the system.

1- What comm system are you using and where is it mounted? Can you integrate radio, radar, phone, etc with it?

2 - Has anybody mounted a V1 in the glove box or side bag? I fully realize that I'll lose a little range and sensitivity, but again, I prefer that stuff to be out of sight. I had a V1 mounted on the RH saddle bag on the BMW and it worked fine.

3- What nav and where is it mounted?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Congradulations, let us know when you get your bike. As far as the farkles, there are hundred of threads pertaining to all your questions. I use a chatterbox system, which I use my cell, xmradio or ipod, and a bike to bike communicator. I use a bel radar which is only mounted with velcro on top my brake reserve, and the GPS is my sony t350 on top my tank bag.

Welcome to THE Forum. Read everything here, then tell US what the best setup is. We can't figure it out. I think I'd go with a Garmin 2730 (Nav, MP3, XM radio all in one) but still have no idea what comm system is best. Either way, your add-ons will be just that. Hard to hide all that stuff on this bike.

Lots of choices.

I use an AutoCom Pro7, 9V battery powered so it stays entirely in a tankbag. It has I/O's for bike-to-bike, music, phone, and intercom. Audio Y-Splitters can be used for more inputs (e.g. music & GPS).

I have a 8500 radar detector "industrial Velcroed" to a Top Gun "ECM Shelf." I want maximum detection range so it is high and obvious. I just have to put all the 'toys' away when I stop (everything fits in 11 liter Marsee tankbag, bag fits in empty saddlebag).

When I run my GPS V it is on a RAM ball mount, bolted to the same shelf. A Powerlet socket in the panel just over the battery and some Y-splitters provide power (tankbag has a Powerlet bulkhead-style feedthrough to power any or all of phone, Ipod, Kenwood GMRS radio, and the AutoCom itself though I recently switched it to 9V battery power).

Personally, I can hear the 8500 just fine through my silicone ear plugs so it is not wired to the AutoCom. And my GPS V doesn't make any noises. That'll be a future upgrade!

Congratulations on the new FJR! Let me take a stab at your questions.

1. I have (and sell) the Starcom systems. I have a Starcom Advance under the seat, in the tool tray.

2. I keep my V1 in a soft bag side pouch that I use on the rear sest. (Solo rider, I am). If I had a passenger, my alternate mounting location is on top of the LH hard bag. In the soft bag, it is invisible. Sound is via the Starcom Advance using the Valentine Audio Adapter.

3. I now have the Garmin 2730, mounted between the handlebars. Audio goes to the Starcom Advance.

I have some pictures of these items in the Yamaha section of my Photo Gallery on my Web site. Click the thumbnails for a larger picture.
