Plug wire could be it, but I had better luck and pretty good results by cleaing the wiring harnes connector under the gas tank up near the steering head. Can't locate the link to it right now, but cleaning the corrosion off this simple connector made a world of difference for me under 2,000 rpm. Previously I had very little power down low and then a massive hit above 2500 rpm. Now it's strong everywhere.I replaced my tps about 500 miles ago. The bike wasn't gaining power smoothly under 2000 rpm, and still isn't after the change. Runs fine otherwise though the gas mileage has droped from 45 mpg to 42 to 3 mpg. It's an 05 with 27k on it. did someone mention plug wires could cause this?
I said the same thing until two years ago when my wife bought a full tank of really BAD fuel at a Conoco station. The car went about one block then stopped. Towed to nearest VW dealership which was 140 miles away in Houston.I always doubt the ever popular problem of "bad gas", at least that gas in the tank. Having put on 1.8 million miles on cars during my career in sales and prolly 200k on bikes, I gotta say I've never had any bad fuel. Bad gas, maybe, but no bad fuel. Most of the time I bought the cheapest stuff I could find.
FWIW, I just did the valve check on my 05 last week and they were all in spec @ 29,000 miles.
