It was a VERY bad weekend:

Don Knotts was joined by Dennis Weaver (McCloud) and Darren MacGavin ("The Ol' Man" in "The Christmas Story"). MacGavin was peculiarly not credited for his roll as Max, the gambler in "The Natural" who tries to corrupt Robert Redford.

He also played "Mike Hammer" in the 50's, a roll Stacy Keach later made his own. But somehow, in Jean Shepherd's stories of growing up, nobody could EVER have played "The Ol' Man" better than Darren MacGavin, forever battling The Furnace, flat tires, and Bumpus's dogs!

RIP, guys--you all gave us a lot of joy.

McGavin made the role of Carl Kolchak in Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Nobody played the sitcom funny guy part better than Don Knotts!

"Iggy" on Taxi and Krammer on Siegnfeld were great.

But Barney, played by Don Knotts, is the measuring stick that all others have been and will be compared to.

To quote the Grateful Dead,"Thank you,for a real good time!"

May you rest in peace Don.

Just saw the episode again last night of Barney with his police bike and sidecar. That's a classic!
