Just did Barbarian mod on new(er) bike and am using this thread to make record of my factory settings as well as notes on my mod

Perhaps it makes sense for others to do the same. Yes, also keep a permanent record of your factory settings, but another back up on this thread may not hurt and perhaps we can compare notes

2004FJR

Factory:

1 = 13

2 = 12

3 = 10

4 = 11

June19 2010

bumped them all up 12 so now:

1 = 25

2 = 24

3 = 22

4 = 23

Since when are you into just SWAGing? For all you know, you were too rich to begin with.

12 is too much.

started with a bump of 9 and kept going up until I could keep the front wheel off the tarmac through 2nd gear with no clutch.

12 is puuuurrrrfect for my needs. **** howie has bumped up like 22 or something.

That's why we'll use this thread ...to see what a good consensus is.

BTW note how consistent my factory numbesr are ....this bike didn't come off the production line on Friday afternoon.

Like many other MY 2005's, my factory settings were: 1, 8, 7, 6. But I don't believe that these settings apply uniquely, or specifically, to my bike since many other folks have reported having a stock '05 with this exact same 4 number sequence. I think that at some point in FJR production they stopped adjusting the CO per bike and started just plugging in these "standard numbers" on all bikes.

My bike had a lot of lean surging in the 3k - 5k rpm range. It could especially be felt under light loads (not accelerating) such as when cruising along on secondary roads. I tried running with added fuel (+7, then +10 across the board in CO setting), but it didn't accomplish what I wanted, so I bought into the PCIII kool-aide. The map I'm running now regularly gives me 40-43 mpg and no lean surging. I'd love to go back to using the O2 sensor for improved fuel economy (actually improved range, I don't care much about the economy) but the surging is a deal breaker for me. Maybe it's a princess and the pea thing, but it bothers me, and I have it fixed (for now) with the PCIII.

I know there are few people who've successfully installed the PCV w/ a wideband O2 sensor on the GenII, but have not heard of any GenI installs. That would be the perfect solution and I guess would eventually pay for itself in fuel savings :)

If MamaYama stopped adjusting per bike, that indeed is a shame. A big shame. Certainly the 2003's and 2004's were done per cylinder.

Without them doing so you're really guessing and no good way to measure per cylinder the CO2 levels without going into real complicated stuff.

The Barbarian mod IMO is very cool as it gives you the ability to tweak just enough to avoid lean surging with minimal drama. Part of this easy success comes from the factory giving a per-cylinder base line of consistency per cylinder. Without this, even a fancy re-mapping scheme such as a PC isn't going to be very scientific and you're basing it off of an average of the four cylinders --->unless one goes to very extreme drama filled testing which would include measuring CO2 per cylinder and of course dyno.

Lean surging is common on the majority if FI bikes now-a-days, but IMO the FJR has a huge advantage in that the FI doesn't have to be tweaked in all sorts of weird ways at various throttle and RPM levels to get very nice results. ..just bump up the richness a bit instead. This is not the case in other bikes where the levels of bump +/- vary greatly through the RPM and throttle position range and the near infinite combination of these two variables. I've run PC's on other bikes and it gets complicated getting things dialed in -and the grey line between mileage and performance is often very tough to do.

In short, PC's or other forms of re-mapping are awesome, they give great flexibility and control, but IMO the FJR you can do a lot with the Barbarian mod -much in thanks to MamaYama doing a good job on the factory mapping ...AND (at least on the earlier bikes) giving a baseline per cylinder.

If more people post their factory settings and results we can likely get a better idea of where/when MamaYama quit tuning per cylinder. as well has how much bump the average schmuck likes. The latter isn't scientific but that makes for half the fun.

BTW fred:

---->>>I just bought a new throttle -no more "10", -it goes all the way to 11!!!! (audio behind the methodology here CLICKY)

OEM -- 4 - 8 - 6 - 15

Now -- 22 - 22 - 22 - 22

I chose to put all the settings the same as I had my fuel injectors "flow balanced" prior to putting Frankenbike back together.
