I have switched to Royal Purple Motorcycle oil and diff fluid. These are full synthetic fluids that really work. I talked to the techs at RP and they said that the film strength increase over Mobil 1 is like the film strength increase going from petroleum based to Mobil 1. In my '05 FJR, the engine runs quieter and smoother and the shifts are much smoother and easier. My first big test with RP was when I changed the engine, tranny and diff in my Z06. The drive line mechanical noise dropped 50% and avg mpg increased to 28 plus avg running 85-90. Engine oil temps dropped avg of 5 degrees. All the factory fluids on the Z06 from the factory are synthetic and the engine oil is Mobil 1. JC Whitney sells the whole line of RP lubricants. Prices are comparable to Mobil 1. Checker Auto Parts carries auto oils here in AZ in a few stores, but not MC oil yet that I have seen. Those of you in Tucson can get it from me if you can't find it anywhere else. 520-907-4811.

In the frozen north (here) I run Amsoil 10-40 full synthetic w/Yamaha filter and crush washer. IMO this is a great synthetic.
I have just gone through the same scenario as Warchild. AutoZone had a super deal of 5 quarts of Mobile 1 plus a Mobile 1 filter for $29.99. I went around w/ the manager as the ad did not specify only car oil. Had him look on the net where AutoZone is supposed to stock the MX4T. He ordered it, came in today. Limit was 2 packages so I ordered a second 5 qts. and another filter for the $29.99. He honored the sale price on the second order. That's a killer deal boys!

Big fan of Mobil1 for my SUV's, lawn tractor and mower; V-Twin formulation for air cooled cruiser and MX4T for the Feejer.

IMHO, the Scott's filter is the best available. Expensive, yes, but it's cleanable. Takes the hastle out of finding a filter for last minute oil changes. Check out the specs for filtration.

If you google and search around, you can find one for quite a bit less than on Scott's site. If you plan on owning this bike a long time, it will pay off for itself. Personally, just not having to make sure I have a new filter (have 6 vehicles in the house now, getting tired of finding filters!) is worth it. After checking out the specs and knowing how good Scott's products are, I was sold.
Also have one of their dampers on my off-road weapon...best product ever for offroad use! They make only the finest quality items available.
As far as oil, you cannot really go wrong with sticking with any MC specific oil. Just stay away from energy conserving oil as Bounce has mentioned. I can't say I've ever heard of an oil failure on a bike as long as the level is kept in check...

I have just become a Scotts dealer and have the Scotts filter in stock. I have to say, it is a pretty impressive looking piece from an appearance and construction standpoint. It very well made and great looking. I am due for a oil/filter change in 600 miles and this will be a worthwhile addition to my FJR.
