I have what may be a dumb question but then again it might not be--I've got my Dual Star grips hooked (for power) to a headlight wire (green I think, I'm partially color blind). That way the Grips only draw juice when the lights are on - my question - seems at times they stop working - have I hooked them up so that they only work with the low beams!!?? Is it possible that when I switch to high beam the wire I've got my grips hooked to is off? Damn, that might explain why sometimes it seems like the grips shut down. Thanks Bounce, it was your post that shook this loose!

JimLor, you are correct, your grips are only on when the low beams are on. So, whadda ya want, heat or light? If you don't like this arrangement, ;) you should use the Blue/Green wire.

Wire color legend:

Red/yellow dot -- headlight fuse, connected driectly to blue/black dot wire at the fuse

Blue/black dot -- headlight fuse, connected directly to Red/yellow dot at the fuse

#1 ECU controlled power to headlights, ensures lights are off during cranking and off in some instances when the key is on but the engine is not running

Yellow black dot -- ground from ECU

Blue/green dot -- power to headlight hi/low relay; connected to the common pin of the relay

#2 Headlight Relay

Green/black dot -- from Hi/Lo switch on handlebar

Solid Black -- at realay; ground

Solid Green -- low beam power

Solid Yellow -- Hi beam power

Solid Black -- at headlights; ground

Hope this clears things up!

Thanks Ionbeam! This is pretty funny - I ride the bike to work usually once a week or so. I hate, did I say HATE Route 95 and get off and go throught the Marine Corps Base at Quantico on the way home. The times I've done this I've noticed my grip heaters often stop working - yup, it's pretty open and my high beams are on most of the time. Couldn't figure it out to save my life! I went back and soldered the connections to the switch and have been meaning to do the same to the connection to the - now I understand - low beam wire. I'm going to do the Blue Sea pwr blk farkle and will redo the power for my grips. One of life's little mysteries solved! THANKS.

Ok corect me if I'm wrong ( wouldnt' be the first time! <BG>)but i thot that if you had supplemental lighting, federal regualtiions said that it could only be on when the low beams were on, not the hight beams...

I see your reason for having it on with the high beams, or with a 3pole switch ( that's a good idea) but wondering how it would pass a safety iinspection if the extra lights came on with the hi beams...

thanks

Mary,

The Aux lights come with an additional off switch which interrupts all function. I haven't ever heard of a regulation on aux lighting with low beams only.

krashdragon,

High beams that modulate only in the daytime works for me. When I want to alert someone to my presence, I flick the high beams on. Otherwise I'm running with the normal low beams.

If they were modulating low beams you'd either have to have a switch to stop them or run with high beams.
