red-light videos aimed at drivers who don't come to a complete stop before right-on-red.
Not one word about two-wheelers, but my mind reels. I never stop completely for a right-on-red when I can see that it is safe to proceed.
my wife got nailed by one when they first went in around here. we got a bill in the mail with a link. load it and set for a few seconds wondering what it was trying to show us. sure as **** her white car approaches the intersection and makes a right against the list WITHOUT EVEN STOPPING!

she claims she never new about the "after stop" part of the law. i wouldn't put it past her to be that clueless. i can assure you she's not observant enough to see a rider under some circumstances. i was more than happy to pay the bill to learn this gap in her understanding (and drill it home over and over and over and over and over again) over the next few months.

i don't approve of big brother and have heard of abuses of these systems (short cycling lights to increase revenue) but when it's used like this KUDOS! if you stop before making a right from now on, then it's doing a good job and won't cost you a cent. and no it's not a wives' tale. several jurisdictions around the country had to have injunctions to stop doing it. in some cases it was the contractor (maintains the equipment and splits the revenue).

One type of revenue-enhancing abuse is making the yellow light unusually short, so people think they'll make the light before it goes red, but they don't.
That statement about the yellow lights is total ********. It is basically a wives tale started by people who are looking for reasons to ***** about the presence of red light cameras.
No, it's not. Several jurisdictions have been cited/fined for installing red light cameras and shortening their yellow light times. Do a Google search for "red light cameras as revenue generators" and you'll find several stories of places that have been caught doing it.

Then wait for the words, "civil penalty". In Texas you can't issue a ticket via camera either because an officer has to witness the offense. Instead you get a civil fine that doesn't appear on your driving record.

Heck Ya! Job security!

If I got a Ticket in the mail with a photograph of me running a red light, I would send them a picture of my money :D
What do you do when they send you a picture of Hand Cuffs Back?

Say my wife was driving :D

Dumb question re: these camera's:

how can they give a ticket to a particular driver when the drivers id can't be verified like when you are wearing a full face helmet? maybe you loaned the bike to someone?

I've no doubt theres also times in a car when the driver can't be positively id'd from the traffic camera pic.

anyone know the answer to this?

The logic is, you own the vehicle so it's your responsibility how it is used. They are giving the ticket to the vehicle, not the driver. If you weren't driving at the time of the infraction, then get the person who *was* driving to pay the fine.

Meh. If the use of red light cameras will stem the flow of a$$holes blowing through intersections, great. Personnally, I think we would have better luck installing something like this... Linky.

Actually the plate cover does work, just illegal.
Actually, that myth was busted: Mythbusters

(Unless you're talking about the "flipper" that Jamie used... In which case, disregard my last. :D )

my vehicle doesn't have a drivers license, pay insurance, or get point against it. I don't think giving tickets that count against your license would stand up to a vigorous defense.

Before moving to Vegas I lived in AZ. They have the Cams at red lights, Side of city streets and on Freeways for speeders. In AZ if you get one of these in the mail and ignore it they increase the fine and tow your car when they see it. They also suspend your DL. Now if you are not the driver and send them a letter stating that and Proof. Then you can get out of it. They will ask who was driving but you don't have to tell them.

My sister and her husband register their cars separately, which I find odd but what do I know. Anyway She drive his and he drive hers. So when they get the tickets in the mail with a picture of Her driving His car, so he gets the ticket in his name, He sends back saying as he is a male it must not be him. Yes this is cheating but seems to work. I figure just don't break the law and if you do then be willing to pay the fine.

Now the core problem I see is that in the USA we are innocent until proven guilty. In this case you must Prove that you are not the driver.

Great video...

How many post about riders getting killed because of cagers not paying attention? So far today, I have read 2. If those cameras make people pay attention just a little better where they are posted, and I get home safe because some stupid kid with a tuner car won't run the red light because he knows a ticket will be in the mail, then it's worth it. I know where they all are in my city, hell, my Zumo knows where they are all over the country! Pretty easy to avoid the performance award. In the city, stop, in the country, take your chances.

Just my .02

Be careful in small towns too. I live in a small town of about 20000 and they are being installed. I agree with the concept generally. One point I haven't seen mentioned is pedestrians.... I have a 11 and 12 year old walking to school this year. I don't want an ****** running them down. It happens, and if a ticket keeps them safe, so be it. And I have been known to roll through a red light, but it isn't a right. The law is there to protect people. But the idea of cameras everywhere is troubling in an Orwellian way.
