Found while browsing-what it was like to fly on a Constellation in the fifties. Extremely nostalgic!

Yeah, remember when "jet set" meant someone who was rich enough to fly all the time?

It's amazing what a difference it makes what air carriers had to do to attract the business of their necessarily well-to-do customers, compared to the cattle-herding that goes on today. I liked the ash tray in the arm rest. And didja see how much space was between the rows of seats?!?!??!

Didn't see any headphone jacks or video screens, though. . . . .

I had the "pleasure" of flying in a Connie (Navy C121) from Christchurch to McMurdo in 1967. They often had to turn around and come back to ChCh for some reason or other. As I remember, our flight to the Ice made it in one try but I think the Navy must have phased them out because I was delighted to fly back to Christchurch in a C130 a year later.

Thanks Radman.

Early Connies were sarcastically known as "the best Tri-Motor flying" due to teething problems with the Wright radials. A flight on one in '67 would have been quite possibly the last one with a legitimate carrier.
