Funny thing is that he had his drive identified just BEFORE it failed and AFTER the rally was over. Crane did 8700 miles, but could have DNF'ed he had 8800 miles to cover. I saw them moving it in the parking lot and there was like 3/8" play when they grabbed the wheel and twisted it.
It made me sick to my stomach and I don't even ride one.

I really feel for these guys.....a great bike with such an obvious problem. We have it good I think.
Oh ****. I hate to say it, but I can't wait to call that boy and give him a full ration. For two years, all I have heard is about how great his GS is and how he really doesn't miss his old FJR. Time for him to drink A LOT more kool-aid.

THANK GOD for the Kool-Aid! I'm leaving on a 4,400 mile run to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on October 10th aboard Ingrid.

Ingrid, being a BMW R1150RT of the 17 ball bearing final drive, which fails just as fast as Mi Mexico Mule's 19 ball final drive.

Changed her final drive fluid this morning while it was still cool here in Phoenix. Only 90 degrees in garage instead of 110.

No metal specks in her gear oil and I was looking with a magnifying glass. Also did 3 & 9 and 12 & 6 test; so far, so good!

As a BMW owner/rider of 40 years and member of BMWMOA since 1981, I would be amazed if a lawsuit doesn't occur soon.

Due to all my friends in BMWMOA and BMWRA I'll never give up BMW ownership; I enjoy the Rallies way too much for that!!!

But I do find myself wondering if my BMW collection is going to consist of chain drives like F800GS or the belt drive models!
