Yesterday I didn't have to work :yahoo: and wanted to go ride around beautiful Evergreen. In my list of things to do, that has evidently been lost in the pile of mail at home due to work, I have neglected a very important detail which is getting the tag for my bike.

The plan was to ride for a short spell then next week I'd surely make a point to get the tag. Within 20 mins of riding I'm enjoying the reasons why I bought the bike then I hear sirens and see blue lights in my mirrors....two state patrol vehicles on my ***.

I knew what the deal was before they approached me... the tag. <_< The officers tell me the bike has to be towed, I have to be ticketed, and I'll pay tow fees plus daily parking fees plus the weekend towing and parking is higher than on a week day.

I've learned in my life there are two sets of people I never **** around with, my close friends and police officers. I'm not saying lie to everyone else, but these two groups of people have the power to help you or hurt you. So I tell both officers how work has been hell and there's even a ton of personal stuff I haven't done since taking the job. They look at me like they could halfway believe me. The thought hit me to show them the odo reading.... 61, which seemed to prove my answer. So I then promised to take the bike home immediately and park it till Mon to when I'll go first thing in the morning to get the tag.

They let me go even without a warning. The officer is gonna call the tag division to verify. But anyway, I'm not riding on this beautiful Sunday... gonna do what I promised. But I'm not bummed out. I'm blessed to have a beautiful bike and a job to pay for it, and double-blessed cuz my bike wasn't towed and I wasn't fined. I'm also happy cuz THIS WEEK I will be able to pass off work to the tax people and I can lower hours at work.

So in my post about the NAFO meeting here in July about strong police presence around Evergreen and the western side of Denver... I wasn't kidding.

You bought the bike a few months ago and the weather was crappy so you couldn't ride it and by the time you could ride it the temp tag expired??? :)

"Within 20 mins of riding I'm enjoying the reasons why I bought the bike then I hear sirens and see blue lights in my mirrors....two state patrol vehicles on my ***."

Sounds pretty excessive for the situation, but then, I wasn't there...

In the course of the past several years, I've ridden without any plate for a total of several months while waiting for new or custom plates. The DMV people always said something like "Keep the temporary with you, just be able to show it to anyone who askes for it." Well, no one ever did, even though I rode several thousand miles and 8-10 states, including riding a "new" bike home from the east coast. Just lucky, I guess...

PS - The last time I had two patol cars behind me was when I was in high school, back in the late 60's. It was even in Colorado, although it was the southeastern corner (Lamar) of the state. Four of us had been out "cruising" - in a car - the country back roads and, even though none of us were 18, we'd had a couple of beers... As we were rolling into town a city cop pulled in behind us and hit his lights. (no siren, though) One of the girls stuffs an open beer bottle in her oversize purse, spilling it everywhere. I quickly light a cigarette and bounce out of the car (yeah, I found out later how stupid that was) back to the officer. He looks at my license and registration, then says "Someone would like to talk to you!" I look back, where he's pointing, to the CSP cruiser that's just pulling up behind the city car. I don't remember all the details, but one of the trooper's opening remarks was "Where were you going? I couldn't catch you - I had to have this officer stop you for me!" Well, I knew I hadn't been going that fast, and was young and dumb enough to not be scared. For whatever reason, the subject of beer never came up... and I was the hero at school for the next few weeks. "TWO cop cars?!?!? WHAT did you DO????" :D
