I did the bmw grip topgun bar end change, but instead of moving the left switch housing, I used the two hilts off the stock grips to take up the space between the shorter bmw grip and the housing. The right side space was filled with a vista cruise. I used a razor knife to shave the hilt into a flat disc. Looks great and costs nothing to do. And I didn't have to grind anything off of my brand new bike.

Bob FJR, great minds think alike. I did the same thing. Picked up the grips and was ready to install, and then thought it sure would be nice to have those donuts to take up the slack. Then decided to do just what you did and as you said, it works great.

As for the BMW grips, what a difference from the stockers. Probably the best $24 farkle I have added to the bike. The grips are much more comfortable than the stock ones.

Also like the look of the new site! :)

I just moved 'em. A little duct tape underneath makes them solid as the original peg.

I moved my left one, but I drilled a new hole in the handlebar instead of grinding off the little peg in the control housing.

Come to think of it, thats what I did on the right one. Also a slight twist to realign as a result of the D&D risers I run. A plus was that it rotated my Vista Cruise so that it's easier to engage/disengage.

where is the best place to purchase the BMW Grips described above? And any other suggestions to someone who has not taken off the factory grips before?

Many thanks.

Rob, you can get them from FJR Goodies or your local BMW dealer. The cost is not that much differnt so if you have a BMW dealer close by, just get them there. Cost is about $24 including tax.

I just cut the old ones off with an X-acto knife. I saved the ends next to the controls to act as a spacer as the BMW grips are just a little shorter. With the new ones, put a little gasoline inside and slide them on.

Also note that there are two differnt part numbers as the inside diameter on the throttle grip is slightly larger than the clutch side. Be sure to put them on the right side. That should do you.

You will really like these grips compared to the stock ones.

Thanks much FLRoadking....do you have the part numbers or know the BMW bike to request from a BMW dealer?

Again, much thanks for your help and I am looking forward to the new grips!

Here you go Rob:

Forget which is the throttle but you can tell by looking at them, it has the larger ID. B)
