New guy here and first post so please excuse my nervousness about breaking into the bigtime as I have been on a lowly KLR for some time now...

I am wondering if anybody knows of a ready source for a longer brake line from the handbrake down to the clamp looking thing behind the steering column...I am assuming the line will separate at this clamp looking thing and be easily replaced??? I am thinking about getting a little creative with risers here and I did search for some time before posting and no luck there. Hope this isn't a tired subject as I get bashed enough at home.

Thanks

Joe

Joe,
I see that you have an 07', is that correct?

Welcome to the forum.

Right an 07AE. Wish it was a manual but it was oh so cheap and other than that and needing to get the bars in the right place I really like it.

Thanks for the welcome. This is a really good list.

Joe

Joe, nobody has reported problems with the OEM lines when adding available "risers". It sounds like you are going to be doing some "custom" work, so you might ask a local dealer. In my town there are a couple of places who will build a stainless steel brake line to a specified length. It may be that places like Spiegler will also build a line to your requirements.

These may be too long, but I have a set of black braided stainless lines for a non-ABS Gen 1 bike. They are new and each is the full length, from the master to each caliper. Send me a PM with an offer and they are probably yours. There may even be the hollow bolts, but they weren't made for this set, so IIR the bolts have an anodized look and the lines are black. I think they are Spiegler's but would have to get out the package to look.

If that's the case a word of caution is in order, first attempts at risers for the Gen II's were not successful, some careful research would be in order here.

Keep in mind it's not just the brake lines - throttle cables, and clutch lines as well.

And then there's the wiring harness for all the switches -

There's approx 1.5" of available slack in everything - so it limits what you can do with risers.

And there's that annoying "adjuster" - cable management wire bale that's installed at the factory, then the cables are dressed through it during assembly. It has to be cut to remove.

Many have passed through here before you, with at least two manufacturers I know of dropping the project - so best of luck !!

Sounds like having my two long lines wouldn't help. Good luck with the idea.
Probably not unless I end up needing a donor line to cut to length and have a proper end installed on it for the lower end. Does one of yours have a banjo fitting on it like at the fluid reservoir?

Thx Joe

No. I have an '07 too. That's specially factory crimped, and it goes all the way back to the ABS pump as one piece and will set you back like $180 clams. This is definitely something you want to look to Spiegler or similar. I got Genmar risers & Spiegler lines for my SV-650 because I'm just too damn tall for it really, but I know Spiegler does good custom work.

Hmmm. Not good news about the factory crimp. Temporarily stymied here but still thinking.

Thanks Joe
