Don't know what section to put this post in ????

O' yea... the mandatory... I searched this subject on every forum on the planet... and other planets as well...

Got back from EOM and parked the bike for a few days... Last night washed the bike up and cleaned the bugs off.. I have an Black 08', and after cleaning the bike there is 'whelp's' in the paint / clear coat.... I have a ton of different waxes cleaners and such and tried to get off the juice.... This is NOT the remains of the bugs, I carefully cleaned the front end of the bike, Etc.. There where a few big spots that I wanted to concentrate on to make sure these are not just cooked on remains of Bug Guts... After a good amount of time of come to the conclusion that darn near every spot that a bug died the clear coat has kinda 'whelped' up... You can only see this in the cross light reflection of the Sun, Etc.... but its there... If you are two feet away no one would probably ever see it but the bug guts messed up the paint .......

Anyone else notice this on a Black one ? O'well............ still a bad *** bike !!! peace out !

Anyone else notice this on a Black one ?
Yes. And blue ones and red ones and gray ones each to less of an extent related to the darkness of the bike. And it is usually related to a combination of amount of miles and if one rides through buggy areas as much.

I like to call it patina.

I hear Summers Eve gets that out....

LMFAO !!!!!! LOL................. Does your wife know that you have tried that on your bike??? More important, you should have told the forum about your find so I wouldn't have to post of my issue....

That was good !

After I got my almost new 06 home from the dealers showroom I tried to clean what I thought was bug residue off -it covered almost all surfaces.. Not residue tho, but rather damage to the paint. I don't know whether to fault Yamaha's paint or more likely the previous owner who never washed and waxed the paint.. I had to tediously rub out all the marks with Turtle wax cream paint cleaner. Since then I have applied about 10 coats of Meguires Gold carnuba wax and now the maggots just wipe off.

If there is an acid of any kind involved, it might be a good idea to give the ole girl a bath with some baking soda to keep down any growth.

"patina"........LOL that's good !! I guess moral to the story... if anyone cares about long term looks, get those bugs off ASAP... I don't care about dirt, rain, mud per say.... but get the darn bugs off.... There are two places on my bike it looks like someone left raw egg on it and the paint in messed up..... but again... O' well go out and ride the darn thing.... ;-)

Washed and Waxed my bike when i first got it home from the dealership and have waxed it at least once a month to keep the black paint protected. Still seems certain bugs leave their mark on the clear coat. No matter what I use to clean it it seems to remain. I may try different cleaners/wax to see if eventually it comes off or changes. I may even swing by a buddies body shop and give him a look see. Might even have him buff it up and re-clear coat it this winter. He has a clear coat that seems to be tougher than what mammy yammy uses. Not sure it is worth the $$ but at least considering. If I go this route I have thought about having him add a few accents to the feejer.

I'm of the opinion that Yamaha didn't budget a whole lot of expense into the paint and finish quality.

Too bad for us.

I like the 'patina' concept and the fact that it'll only stay 'new' if you don't ride it.

I think maybe Mamma Yamma used really soft paint on the '08's so that the paint would get screwed up fast and owners would then paint their bikes all different colors, that way they didn't have to...
