Build Own Custom Seat with Corbin and Stock Pan

I'm in the process of making a mold for the 2005FJR Seat. Should be an improvement over the stock foam because I will be able to custom make the batch of foam softer or harder. I would love to have a seat from someone who likes the shape, like a BMS or Corbin or Russel, but not the foam density. That way I can make a plug out of the seat with Bondo and make the mold out of it. This will destroy the seat foam but then I can make the same shape and remold the seatfoams to whatever density we want. :assassin: What do you think? Any volunteers.
I already have a stock seat to work with and am in the process of creating the shape.

How about a used corbin r1100gs saddle without the foam? i'll have one if a few days

Cheap ******* my ass! You don't hold a candle to me. I shipped my stock seat off to an upolstry shop and had a 3/4 inch Saddleman gel insert put in $140 includes return shipping.6 day turn around time.

Talked with corbin today and they informed me that they'd build up the seat they make for the 06 FJR (on their website) an additional inch for NO ADDITIONAL charge.....but NO RETURNS.....

what's the deal, did you order it blind (the website advises you the seat is lower) or did you get the built up one and it still wasn't as high as your stock seat on the high setting?

No need for pics. go look at you stock seat! looks the same, but feels a little more cushy on the tushy!

corbin 29 inches - adjustability - none

stock seat in standard position 31.5

stock seat in hi position 32.3

Last I checked subtracting 29 from 31.5 is 2.5 inches. Even with the +2 that some people ordered it's still 1/2 inch shorter than the stock seat in the low position.

I did call them, for a +3 but after being on hold for 20 minutes, they finally said they weren't sure and that to be safe i should ride in.

I'm glad someone else finds it odd that Corbin would go SHORTER with their seat!~ WHY? Is there a big outcry for a shorter option on a bike that comes with such a reasonable seat height to begin with?...and not a whole lot of extra leg room. It's like they didn't realize that dropping the seat would raise the knees! Not a problem on the Kroozers they're used to working on, I suppose.

I've had two corbins on BMW GS's- and they both made that bike taller- and it's pretty damned tall to begin with. While I've really loved those saddles, Corbin blew it this time- I'm looking elsewhere.

Just do it yourself.
The Yamaha seat is just stapled onto the seat pan. Small flatblade screwdriver, pop the staples, peel back the covering and go nuts with an electric knife or good utility knife. Once complete, just stretch the covering back over the foam and restaple with a staple gun.

Easy to do, but there are TWO layers on the stock seat... once you've cut off the nice thick top layer of foam, the bottom layer doesnt' have much support to it...

Just ask me how I know!

Mmmh...layers? Are you sure? :blink: This is what the stock seat foam looks like (on a 2005 model). Same density all the way down to the hard thermoplastic seat pan...
