I have just now looked at this thread. It is indeed an impressive undertaking and accomplishment. I did not see anyone say

You earned your spot the hard way

Great!! Job

:D

Yes, I would say that's absolutely amazing. I'll give you a hard earned "well done" on a bike that was previously "well done!"

That can only be Labor of Love. If you have ever been around burned things. It is a lot of work to get rid of all the stinky parts. Besides the $3000 in parts time & effert; How much was the $ Salvage?

Looks Terrific! :yahoo:

Yup, I would've walked away too!

But my hat is off to you my friend........Nice work!

How many man hours to get her looking like that again?

Wow is right. I would have walked away from that as well.

You have much resilience, patience and skill. :thumbsupsmiley:

Racer did I understand correctly. You rebuilt this for 3,000. Total! Plus $1.00 for the bike.
Yes the bike was sold to me for one dollar. It was a straight title transfer. When I went to dmv to register the bike I brought some pictures with me and the only question I was asked was how many miles were on the bike. I kept showing them in the pictures the place where the plastic instrument cluster had been. Finally I had to get a picture of what a whole bike looked like so they understood it was melted, gone. The people at DMV were very nice and sympathetic to what I was going to try to do. I took it by to show them when I got the bike running. They were great!

Damn! As much as I love to wrench and customize bikes, this one is for the books. You are not a wrench, but an artist my friend. You have a great canvas to work with too.

Congratulations on your successful project.

Unbelievable - what's ur hourly rate?
I charge $50 per hour straight time. I'm 60 years old and can only work 3or4 hours at a time and have to rest a while. I only charge for the time I put into a bike. I garantee all my work.

That is correct. I am still missing two fairing panels which haven't come up on ebay yet. I may have to break down and buy new ones.

Nice restoration. For $3001 it is a great ride. Are you worried about metal brittleness at all? Was it squirted with water by the fire department? No way to really check, just watch for frame cracks.

I have kept a close eye on the frame and swing arm . So far everything looks fine. I have ridden her 2000 miles and I'm very pleased with the rock steady handling and ease of operation. I have recently added the "W" to the front shield and have three locks coming for my bags. I just got the lower triangle wedge for my lower fairing so I am looking forward to a more stable fairing at speed. Thank you all for your support.

Racer157 it was great to get to meet and talk with you before the Napa ride and see this bike up close and in person. Its already been said but what a fine job on resurecting this great FJR out of a heap of ashes! Keep up the good work and keep us updated. This is one tough bike! PM. <>< :fans:

The ride was great and i am looking forward to the next one. The gods of ebay have been good to me this month and she is now getting a chin piece and some newer rubber parts that help direct air to the right places. I took her in to Hillside Honda in lakeport for the TPS recall and I was impressed with the prompt service and excellent work. Now I can install the heat blanket fix and my sliders. I will set up a new picture with the new parts as they come. Thank you all for your support.

Absoloutly astounding! Your satisfaction must be immense. 2 Huge accomplishments here, one is the obviouse technical achievement two is the tennacity and determination to complete such a task. A couple of questions spring to mind though:

1. Is there any way of checking that the heat didnt weaken the frame/forks/wheels?

2. Now that you have done this you know the FJR inside out, is there anyway you can make use of this knowledge....set up an FJR workshop?

3. Do you have the bug now....will you look for another?

D. I might have missed it, did you say how long this took, in man hours or months?

Amaizing that the tank didn't blow!!

(I must be in a counting mood today.....I struggle after 3)

Yes I liked it ,but I believe it goes on a 2006/7. I may still try to mount it . I was blown away by the size difference, my over size sheild is 40% larger by measurement than your stock one. Thanks again for sending it to me to try.
