Absolutely astounding! Your satisfaction must be immense. 2 Huge accomplishments here, one is the obvious technical achievement two is the tenacity and determination to complete such a task. A couple of questions spring to mind though:
1. Is there any way of checking that the heat didn't weaken the frame/forks/wheels?

2. Now that you have done this you know the FJR inside out, is there anyway you can make use of this knowledge....set up an FJR workshop?

3. Do you have the bug now....will you look for another?

D. I might have missed it, did you say how long this took, in man hours or months?

Amazing that the tank didn't blow!!

(I must be in a counting mood today.....I struggle after 3)
I have kept a close eye on the frame and forks and wheels. I have had the bike over 140 with no problems. I guess I have had my bike farther down to the bones so to speak than most. I would be happy to share any thing I have learned so far with anyone who needs help. I'm have made comments in the forum on a variety of subjects such as handling and oil issues. I have never logged the hours it took to get her back on the road. She is still a work in progress. So far parts from 31 different fjr's have gone into her. It took me 9 months to get her running again. My next step after I get the last remaining plastic inner fairing parts will be a total tear down (motor out of frame so I can finish cleaning up the motor, frame and drive line. I promise I will take more pictures this time and keep track of my time. Thanks for the support.

I said I would keep you updated on this bike . It saddens me to report we were involved in a accident near my house when I was cut off by a on coming mini van and in desperation had to lay her down on the left side. I am laid up with a torn muscle in my lower stomach. The bike has extensive damage on the left side, front fender, fairing and left saddle bag. I was able to ride her home and then got on another of my bikes to meet with the people I was headed to when my ride was interrupted. I now have to deal with Mercury Insurance people The accident report sited the van driver so at least I have that in my favor. I will keep you posted on our progress.

Gloom, despair and agony on you.....

Dang! That looks like the first day bruises always do...terrible. Lots of blood floating around on a muscle tear/bruise. Be sure and get some good color pictures once it turns "psychedelic"...all of those pretty shades of green, blue and purple.

And yes, old guys don't bounce back like they used to, from one of the BTDT club. In fact, we normally "break", so you've done well, though it probably doesn't feel like it right now.

Sorry to hear about the bike. Maybe you now get it closer to OEM condition with the settlement...or are we thinking replacement?

Heal well and ride safe.

Sorry to hear about the crash. You walked away and that's good. Even better you rode away! I know it must be a heart breaker from all the work you put into the FJR. Hopefully the damage is all cosmetic. If I had a 2005 FJR I'd send you parts from it to help.

Speedy healing!

Sorry to hear about the take down. At 60 you wreck & stay in one piece with a new painful tatoo. Ride Home! Get on another MC and ride out. Damn! You are one for the books. Let us know your course of action on the FJR. I would guess you made it home from the second ride. Don't forget Medical HELPS get a good Insurance settlement. Ride Safe, & Happy Miles To You. TJ

Great job, now change your avatar to the burnt bike and your screen name to toasty. lol. Have fun and good luck with her.Wow, guess I should have read the last 3 comments before I posted. Well better luck in the future racer. Glad your resonably ok.

racer157,

You're hardcore, both wrenching and riding. Be glad it was just a bad bruise, twisted metal and fragged plastic. Hope your recovery is speedy.

You did an outstanding job. You certainly have talent and a lot of patience. Sad to see all that hard work messed up, but glad you are ok to talk about it. Get well soon.

I'm sorry to hear about the jerk in the van but I'm very glad to hear you rode away from it. Get a good settlement, then built her back up with more eBay parts - you did it once, you can do it again...and it'll be much easier this time!

You took a second ride with a torn stomach muscle,,,,,, Your da man !!!!

Just a heads up,,,,, someones parting out a fjr on ebay, saw today sunday(7-15) . Maybe the cash you get from mercury insurance verses used parts rebuild again,, maybe recoup to the point where bike will cost zero from start to end. Never mind zero,,, tack on the $50 per hour labor

Then look forward for the pain & suffering , mental anguish lawsuit, save every bill& medical reciept (even if for asperin). Go see that specialist in las vegas & his brother in cancun. Plus the massage parlor $$$$ to get the muscle spasm's eased !

Just having fun here, great job on the bike & hope you'll do well.

Sorry to hear about yet another get-off but glad to hear your on the rebound. This bike literally has been to hell and back. It is to be resurected yet again I hope. It's been through too much to stop at this point. All these wrecks around here I am really affraid to go riding.... so get well and prayers coming your way to you and the family. Del. <><
