I am new to the FJR. Today after riding adout two hours, when I got home I noticed that my Left heel had been resting on the exhaust pipe. Melted a good part of my boot heel. Does anyone know of a guard or something that might help prevent this? I thought I saw something but can not find it now. Also, what are peoples opinions of Block Bar Raisers and the $330 bar raisers?

There is so much great information on this site - thanks.

Um....."dixie what his ***"? I don't know if I want to be involved with that.

This Spring I've got some boot heel to scrape off the pipes. A nice sharp single edge razor blade usually coaxes the stuff off just fine.

Of course its always on the pipes behind the rear pegs.

I thought we were going to turn our deaf ear to our troubled trolls.

:bye:

Did the same thing with the boots when I purchased my FJR. The following work well -- why Yamaha does nto install them I'll never know. Got them from J&P Cycles:

PRODUCT NUMBER/ (SEE QUANTITY QUANTITY UNIT

DESCRIPTION BELOW) ORDERED SHIPPED PRICE STATUS

Part 4420105 17.99 SHIPPED

CHROME EXHAUST HEAT SHIELD 7"

Merchandise Net: 35.98

ADMIN NOTE:

Actually, I don't think they are a certain troll. Please give this person the benefit of the doubt they're a newbie. / Thanks.

MEMBER RESPONSE:

Do take a look at fjrtech.com we recommend it strongly to newbies and provide a link to in the forum. I have two of the Cobra guards I got from cruisercustomizing.com and they's slick..and reasonably priced.

Fine by me, only call 'em as I see 'em.

Got a reputation to uphold ;)

Sparko, don't take it personally...there was some trouble recently with a vendor that had something to do with bar risers so your post drew suspicion.

Thank you very much for the help. I ordered a set from J&P.Sorry about asking a question. I am not perfect.
This place was created so folks could ask questions. That shot from Bustanut was because he thought you were someone else. No big deal. Hang around for awhile and you'll think he's pretty funny. Hang around longer and you'll learn a &%#*load about the bike. And dink around with the search function. Most of the best info is buried in old threads.

+1, by the way, on the Cobra heat shields. They look pretty nice too, even if I have an aversion to chrome.

And though I know don't anything specific about a brand called Block Bar Raisers, $330 for a set bar risers seems pretty ridiculous to me. Both GenMar & Helibar make them for about $100, and you can often find used risers for about half that (they pop up on the classifieds here relatively often).

Whether or not to use them depends on how you're shaped. You'll find a lot of folks here who swear by them. I put 'em on then took 'em back off and resold them about a week later. I'm more comfortable with the stock position.

I don't get any major heel meltage, but occasionally there is some brief contact made and small heel marks show up on the pipes. Fot those looking to remove the melted rubber, try using GooGone. Takes it right off with now scrubbing or chance of scraping the pipe.

I s'pose I should get some o' them heel guards. Hell I have almost every other FJR farkle known to man...

And if you ever ride with a pillion, I'd recommend a set of these.

Saved my wife's boot heels on more than one occasion.

Well dang I guess I should apologize to sparko  ..... Nah, I do that and I'd be branded a wimp here and I don't need the grief I'd be put through by you bastages :****:

The banned ******, or my hemorrhoids, made me a little sensitive.

Hows about a welcome instead.

You've been assimilated and initiated sparko, enjoy the ride ;)
