One of those seems too good to be true deals. Anybody local want to check it out? I've emailed the seller asking him if he has clear title for it. No reply-maybe a stupid question to him. In some states a trailer under a certain weight can be plated without a title. Not so in SC, you must have a title to get a plate no matter the weight. I missed out on a killer deal on a Florida Bushtec because the seller didn't have a title. Can someone in Va tell me if a title is required to get plates for a m/c trailer?

I don't think you need a plate in SC. I ran a Bushtec in SC for 10 years without a plate. With a bill of sale and a certificate of origin from Bushtec you could get a title in SC if needed. That price is great, new it would be at least $3500.

Buy this ASAP. Great deal. But you have to bring the beer.

Reply from SCDMV back in October when I found an even better deal on a Bushtec in Florida:

You cannot obtain a license plate without a title.

Individual owned trailers are only required to be registered for out of state travel. A trailer with an empty weight of 2,500 pounds or more are required to be registered for instate and out of state travel. The plate, (UT) Utility Trailer, can be transferred to another trailer owned by the owner provided that the owner makes application to the DMV for the transfer.

Provide the following to title and obtain a (UT) Utility Trailer plate:

-Form 400 https://www.scdmvonline.com/DMVNew/forms/400.pdf, Application for Title and Registration for Motor Vehicle, Manufactured Home/Mobile Home.

- Certificate of Origin, SC Title or Out of State Title (used- title must signed over to new owner by current owner)

-Proof of Insurance (if applicable)

-Sales Tax (if applicable)

-Property tax receipt is not required

-Required fees: $15.00 title fee, $10.00 UT plate fee (additional $20.00 if you wish to expedite processing. Expedited title and registration can only be processed in your local SC DMV field office only, not by mail.)

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact SC DMV at (803) 896-5000.

If I didn't already have a trailer I would be heading to Winchester. About 2 hours from here. Great deal.

Trailers are required to be titled and licensed in VA. Lived there until a year and a half ago. Here's the registration information from their DMV site:

Before you can get on the road with your motor vehicle, motorcycle, tractor truck, trailer or semitrailer, (Va. Code 46.2-600) you're required to title and register it at one of our customer service centers (CSCs) or a DMV Select office.

The VA Code 46.2-600 states same as above:

Except as otherwise provided in this chapter every person who owns a motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer, or his authorized attorney-in-fact, shall, before it is operated on any highway in the Commonwealth, register with the Department and obtain from the Department the registration card and certificate of title for the vehicle.

Thanks, NeTNFJR

I had emailed about that trailer also and got no response. I can't believe it is still around at that price after 2 months.
