I must have gotten a different bike....

Yep, you got one of the 'SPECIAL' ones.

Wow, those guys on the other forum were so nice and appreciative. Not one rude comment made. We should be more like them.....helpful and understanding.....either that or wage some serious jihad war on them connie owners.

Thanks Fred-your comments on the FJR are spot on with mine I havent ridden the C14 yet and probably wont as I plan on keeping my 06 for another year at least, but am interested in the C14 and may look at it next year (as well as the 08/09 FJR). Thanks again for the detailed comparsions

Put a CCS cruise in an 06 (07?) Sunday, and got to check a few things out. Had an unmodified throttle, and I'll agree with many here in that I found it to be more an on-off switch. Kinda ridiculous, in that the feej does not lack for power, and this is typically a device used in underpowered machines to create the illusion of power where there is none. On a machine with the power-to-weight ratio this bike has, a bad idea for sure. The revised injection is an answer to a question no one asked-as is the odd idle bleed/speed arrangement. Overall though, still a beautiful piece of work. I welcome Kaws re-invention of the Concours-competition is good for everyone. As for Fred, well, I don't dislike him, I'm not the President of his fan club. Seems to me he spent to much time defending his honor, which reflects badly on the people here, but him as well-but he is not the only one of us who is just too damn thin skinned to always carry a tune here. Had he told some to **** off and just left for a bit I don't think it would have gone as far as it has, and now it's probably too late to effectively change things. When he did return after a hiatus, he started off with a "forgive me" thread that I think just got the ball rolling again, maybe not. I hope he doesn't take this place-or himself-so seriously that he leaves for good. This place needs all the disciplined brains it can get, Lord knows it's often light in that department......... :p

There is no Motorcycle but FJR and Radman is its Prophet.

Feejallah'u Akbar!!

To Fred... You did a nicely written "comparo". You own both bikes. You appear knowledgeable. Etc.

I wasn't "bashing", rather stating that I'd like to see what some of the "mag experts" will impart to the world.

I'm sure the C14 is a great machine, heck they all are. I just got the FJR and still learning ...

As for welcome here? Heck yeah... as much as I am and I'm a real novice in this world.

Thanks for providing the writeup...

I'm northeast of you... if you're ever up in the Red River area holler - I'll ride with you.

Lennie

Hey, quiet..............once yer done suckin F.H.'s rod.....let's get down to business and dogpile the bastage. I've been wanting to suck the marrow out of america's "elite" since I was born. Let the dumb idiots run the world for a while.....see what happens. I'll be hangin in the mountains waitin for idiots to stop the machine and grow corns.

:yahoo: too funny!

. o O ( too much time on hands )

I just wanna RIDE... matter of fact, heading back to the Hill Country next weekend (3rd). Wanna go?

I don't have any of the problems he cites...I don't get it...Sometimes I read this forum and wonder if people ride the same bike as I do...a princess can feel a pea through a stack of mattresses....
Another '05 Forum member rode my '04 FJR that has an over size windshield reducing wind noise, no vibrations that I notice and no excessive heat unless the tank is close to empty. Within 5 minutes he had to get off my bike because of the wind noise, heat, bad vibrations and additionally he found my brakes to be way too sensitive and the clutch didn't disengage until it was almost to the bar. His opinions, mine may vary. We are not all alike.
a very good example of the issue of the subjective nature of these things. some people have been trying to get this point across for years.

i go back to the guy who claims that anyone who rides over 350 miles a day is a danger to himself and all those who share the road with him. he has mistaken his personal limitation for a universal one. in this case is the personal perception being expanded out as a universal "design problem"; whether heat, vibration, throttle control (gen 1 is all i can personally speak to), or sidestands.

they're the sensitive type. maybe they need a hug?

and a reach-around?

Hi, let me introduce myself. My name is Fred H. (not nimrod by the way).
Just so happens I own both bikes, and am still riding them both, so I thought I would make some notes on the differences and share them. I apologize if that upsets you.

And yes, I did make a mistake on the valve change interval. The numbers for miles are in parenthesis and kilometers are listed outside. I simply read the wrong one. Take away my birthday, I made a mistake.

As for the comment about tires, I am now on my third set of tires, and have brand new ones on the bike, with less than 500 miles on them. I am not so silly as to try to compare a bike with worn out tires against a new bike with fresh tire and I know how the FJR handles both with new, and with worn tires.

I didn't post these notes on this site, because it seems that anything I post on here become a target for folks to throw darts at, no matter what the topic. And this topic was sure to stir it up, so I didn't even bother.

I am truly sorry if anything I wrote bothers any of you or if you feel it is biased or unfair. I did not intend it to be, and tried to include good and bad points of both bikes. Maybe someone else will come along and do a better comparison than me or maybe Rider or one of the cycle mags will do a comparison and you can see what they have to say.

I do not hate my FJR as some of you seem to think, quite to the contrary actually. If I hated it, I would have gotten rid of it long ago. I just noticed some problems with it that I didn't like and explored for ways to fix them.

I am sorry that so many of you have taken a combative approach toward me but I have more important things that matter to me in life and I won't allow insults from folks I have never even met bother me in the least. Though I am a bit surprised when I look at the rules on this forum about "personal attacks". I guess that is all just window dressing and appears not to be enforced at all.

Each and every one of you are welcome to come visit me, ride with me, get to know me, ask me for help on anything motorcycle related, and I will do whatever I can to accommodate you. And many of you have. I have had at least 5 FJR's in my garage from folks who live in this area helping them work on things in the past year.

I really would like to post on this site more often, but to tell you the truth, I do not feel welcome here, and it seems like anything I post just angers you folks, so I guess I am better off just keeping quiet.

Pardon me now, while I go ride. Maybe some of you should do the same.
It dont bother me Fred, Hope some day we meet and you can tell me what wrong with my FJR and maybe... while your helpin me fix it you'll let me sneak out for a spin on your new C14! looks like it would be a gas to ride! :) but then again, arent ehy all?

I tried one today and it´s a wonderful bike.

Very smooth engine but not as strong in lower rpm as FJR.

Very nice in curves, it feels like a sports bike.

The rider position and seat is wonderful.

The only minus I could think of is that it felt a little bit plastic.

The salesman said it was a FJR killer and I agree that it will be a challenge for Yamaha to keep their FJR customers next time they change bike. Let´s see what Yamaha can come up with.

What Yamaha should come up with is... a fix for this chuggin' surge problem!

Then they can worry about out-doing the Connie.

I read a Cycle World article on the technology in the C14... I have to admit, all the high tech stuff turns me on, but I'm sure the FJR will have alot of that tech by the time I'm ready to replacy my FJR.

I realize that some of the site's ad dollars come from Kawasaki, so that might make the reviewer a bit nicer than he needs to be. However, this line right here, says something:

"Kawasaki has hit a home run. Frankly, this is one of the best motorcycles I have ever tested. Sometimes, technology is thrown at a bike and it does nothing more than make the spec sheet look impressive. The technology on the Concours 14 works in the way it should work ."

That really says something from a guy who has probably forgotten more about motorcycles than I'll ever know.

Hey, we have clutchless shifting, and they can't take that away!!! :)
