Cameras in WA to catch interstate speeders begins May 1

They have the average speed cameras (SPECS) in the UK, but I heard that they are easily defeated by driving in a different lane at each set of cameras. Some legal loophole means you only get the ticket if you are snapped in the same lane, however the government is now suggesting "for safety reasons" (yeah, right!!!), that drivers should avoid changing lanes.

Don't bet on it. I'm willing to bet that they work on doppler shift, which means that the camera doesn't care which lane you're in.

The fact that these are treated like parking tickets means no points on driving records. But it also means that it doesn't matter who the driver is, only the owner!

Speaking of speeding enforcement in the area Pony,

I saw a formation of 6 Portland Beemer-O's on the Washington side of the Glen Jackson today... Was up wit dat? They about made me ruin my wheelie! (I keed..)

Or, does Vancouver/Wa have the same setup as the Portland squad, and this newcomer can't tell the difference?

I heard Battle Ground PD is picking up some H-D's from Columbia H-D soon. And I saw two Vancouver (I think) Beemers playing laser-tag on Hwy 14 yesterday. 64 in the cage in the 55 zone didn't get a response from him, thankfully.

Let's hope not. The artifically deflated speed limits in some areas (Oregon) are bad enough. During my summer bike travels it always amazes me that construction zone speeds in places like Montana and Wyoming are higher than some of normal highway speeds in Oregon. Which state is it that doesn't "get it"?

That's the problem with Washington state. The posted speeds are ridiculously low and everyone exceeds them by 5 mph minimum and often by much more... even the cops. So if they're going to automate the speeding tickets they need to unfuck the speed limits.

Motor school. Three were the experienced officers, the other three were the only ones left standing from the 80 hour introduction course. PPB has an 85% fail rate from the 80 hour school. Today and tomorrow are their long rides, and "situational" trainings.

Well we have seen people take out the STOP LIGHT cameras here. These will be next. After this, it will be the GPS that comes in your car that cites you the ticket.

In 20 yrs we will all be in cars like the Minority Report. Just get in, tell it where you want to go, and BAM you are there. So much for the Selective Process. Back in the day these people would of been weeded out one way or the other.
