Didn't do Valley of the Gods, but my 2005 FJR w/ ABS descended Moki Dugway easily last June. MEM was behind me on her AZ based FZ6 and Bob brought up the rear on a pretty much stock 2003 Honda Blackbird (all w/ packed luggage). Take a few minutes detour to see Goosenecks State Park while you're so close.

And I said at the time that I'd have been more comfortable on my FJR ;)

Even better is when you and I are at the last switchback to the pavement and look up to see Bob above us on the Blackbird, with what are pretty much clip-on bars, and he's one handing the Canon ELPH with his left hand, taking pics! Clearly, we have the boy up to speed by that point in the tour! ;-) 'T,was the next day I figured I'd show him how to chuck an ELPH down an Arizona highway.

Hmmm, now that I think of it, that was an epic day. Four Corners, Natural Bridges, Moki Dugway, Goosenecks, cervezas at a great motel on the San Juan River in Mexican Hat, the guest book and dinner, you and the goats, Bob and the texts from Clifford , . . . and . . . the battle between you and Bob for the twin bed!!! Priceless!*

* and at that, I'm leaving out one of the funniest pictures I've ever taken - of Bob teaching you an Air ___ ___ in the Natural Bridges parking lot.

Moki is a piece of cake on the FJR. Burr Trail at the end of the pavement was washboard hell...make sure everything is bolted down tightly. Notom Bullfrog can have SERIOUSLY sandy sections in the washes...and if it rains....forget it. The FJR will handle just about any secondary road in that are with aplomb...one just needs to be careful...if you have any care about the finish on your bike get the lower portion of the fairing covered in 3M film or the spray stuff....it will get seriously sand blasted without it. Might as well take the Charles Hall Ferry while your in the area...

Most Excellent Five Days Ever
Utah Rocks

:kiss2:

Another awesome stretch of dirt is Hell's Backbone from Escalante, UT to Boulder, UT. Utah 153 I believe is the state assigned route number. Fab scenery, its a little gem just north off of Utah 12.

If you haven't already, seriously consider replacing the OEM plastic radiator 'guard' (hah!) with a significantly more protective metal one, (eg, coxracing). You may also want to check out headlight protectors (ceebailys for example)

Up and down Moki Dugway on my FJR was not an issue.. and no knobs necessary..

nor riding on some off road rock for a photo

Wow what a rider on an FJR. Not only wouldn't I do it, I couldn't! When it started I was worried about his side cases, thankfully he had taken them off. I can't even imagine doing that. Referring to the Off-Road video....
