Can you identify this old motorcycle?

Sorry to hear of your uncle's passing. I had a cool motorcycle riding uncle too.

The first 2 pics are hard to tell. You can almost make out a Montesa badge on the tank in the first pic.

The last one looks like a Montesa Scorpion to me.

Good eye!

Tonight I spent some time talking to my Uncle Jim's old pal Steve at the wake. Pals for forty or fifty years, and there for Jim each other the whole time. Amazing! Jim had other close friends too, there were a lot of tears shed tonight.

Montesa is correct. Get this ... the boys each had two, one to race and one for street. You should have seen Steve's eyes light up when I asked him about it! He even remembered who they bought their bikes from. Jim bought his from Charlie Longfeather.

Best story of the night:

Me: (talking about the third, color photo I posted)Where were you riding that you got all that mud on your bike? (Then I listed all the open areas around my grandparents house)

Steve: No. We rode down by the river.

Me: Cops ever chase you out of there?

Steve: Yeah (sparkle in the eye) but when we saw them coming, we rode up the walking path. We knew they were going to have to go around (drawing circles in the air with his fingers) By then we had gone back to my parents garage and swapped bikes. The cops would stop us and they knew it was us they were after, but there was nothing they could do. They saw the lights and the plates and... You know there were nights when the moon was so bright you could see everything at night. We didn't need the lights. Now my eyes can't gather that much light, but back then... !

Thanks for your replies and sharing.

Fun to hear stories from back in the day.

A reminder to us all to find these guys and spend some time with them before they're gone.

Joe, I don't know if you ever have thought about acquiring a Montesa like your Uncle Jim rode, but if you did I could help you find one. As rushes can tell you, I am buggy about Spanish motorcycles and so very envious of Russ's Spanish Bike Collection.

Here in Arizona we have AMS Racing up in Mesa that always seems to be locating Spanish bikes, here is a listing for an Impala Sport. This motorcycle is the road version of your Uncle Jim's Scorpion. I am always hunting for a Bultaco road racer Metralla, ese!

Thank you Don!

Right now, I think I will wait until this summer and ask my aunt how she would feel about selling me Jim's most recent ride. I don't believe any of my cousins are into riding and I know my aunt understands my connection to Jim.
