CB Radio Antena mount

I have FJR '04, with Givi TopCase.

Want to buy CB radio, but I am consider where to mount antena for that.

I saw antena fitted to the top case Cover, but you have to ride always with this on back... Some people put

antena behind top case, but this is unconfotable to pack the luggage.

I saw one with antena fitted to the left mirror.

So, tell me, where did you mount yours ?

Thanks for your answer. Your antena is covered by bike, don't you have problems with range ?

And you have to ride always with yiur sidebags to use CB?

one more question OT, what is this under you registration plate ? Some kind of locker ?

I have all the range I need. We have enough mountains that I cannot say what the maximum is. I can get out of receive range of many factoy cb's but they can still hear me so my set up has plenty of transmit power. The antenna is a Firestik Firefly and is quite long and yes I travel with the side bags all the time. The box under the plate is a water tite pelican case and is my first aid kit.

I have the long lead of the NGP antenna 'bowtied' in the side case and Firestik advised me how to do a fitting under the seat so I could remove the bag easily.

So this is not a solution for daily use, when you have to go through the traffic, side bags not helps

But this is curious idea.

yep with the following setup to armor the plate

outside is a black plastic frame w/Yammy emblem off ebay

clear cover over the plate that prevents photo camera traffic setups from seeing the plate

license plate itself

billet aluminum frame off ebay

antenna mount on top 2 bolts, hyperlights brand mount on bottom 2 bolts

top 2 bolts attach to stock FJR license plate mount on rear fender

works well for me

I probably get 1 mile range with the 2' antenna, but it looks good and unobtrusive; works OK for me

I might consider getting a longer antenna: either 3' or possibly 4' if I was to want more range

I have a 2008 with Yamaha top box and mount. I used a 2 in x 16 in piece of flat iron purchased at Ace Hardware. I used the center bolt of the top box mount for one of the bolts and drilled a hole in the top box mount to go through the antenna mount to keep the antenna mount secure. Even though the iron antenna mount is grounded to the frame via the center top box mount, I used a ground strap to connect the antenna mount to the frame to make a better ground plane connection. This mount is strong and allows the antenna to stand far enough from the top box to not hit the top box in any strong wind. I am using a Firestik swivel base CB antenna that folds down to fit under a bike cover.

Can you give some more insight into how to you mounted the Pelican? Also, what are you guys using for CB radios? Handhelds, etc?

Great unit; on my Goldwing, had it wired through my sterio head to play my mp3 through both the four mounted speakers and my headset with volume control independent to both

Moved the unit to my FJR and the mp3 plays through the headset or I can buy a harness ($200 plus) that adds in my Zumo and cell phone into the mix.

I currently use a Motorola 830 and a Cardo Scaler headsets (2 different helmets) to hear my Zumo talk and answer/talk on my cell phone.

Can you give some more insight into how to you mounted the Pelican? Also, what are you guys using for CB radios? Handhelds, etc?

The pelican case is mounted using the same holes as the plate uses. The light did not illuminate the plate, so I used some bolts with leds in them...purchased from 1tail.com to mount the plate to the box. I removed the license plate light and routed the wire through the back of the box to teh bolts. I then sillyconed all the bolt heads/holes. If you need, I can take some more pictures. I use a midland 75-822 cb.

Mobile two-way radio antennas work best when they are mounted as high as possible on the vehicle and have a good ground plane. A ground plane is an RF ground. It is not the same as an electrical ground. Basically the antenna needs the metal sub-structure of the bike as its counterpoise. A bracket mount attached to the frame should be the best compromise on a bike.

yes, both my unit and the personal CB that some put on their belt or in a tank bag have a kit to bluetooth the CB (expensive).

their bluetooth optional setup products are a new technology they are developing and now selling.

just go to the J&M web sight for the accessorys and options

there's also a harness ($225?) that adds mutiple accessorys to the CB - it's come stock with one 3mm plug like for a MP3/IPOD, gps, radar detector, or cell phone setup. The harness allows 3 or 4 items to plug into the CB unit and hear all of them clearly with wired sound in the headset..
