Like the topic says I am considering removing it as I never use it. Anyone see or have any problems/regret from doing so? My only concern would be on a very windy day using it to prevent blow over. Has anyone had the wind blow your bike over?

Have you ever changed a tire or removed the forks/shock on a heavy bike that does not have a centerstand?

Have you tried to just put air in the rear tire while not on the centerstand? If it's not lined up right, it can be a pain in the ass; both front and rear. The centerstand also makes accessing and packing the left bag much easier, as all the contents are not trying to fall onto the open lid. Its not hurting anything, and it doesn't weigh much, so why bother taking it off? I guess if you never use it for the reasons mentioned in this post and the one prior, maybe you will never miss it. I donno :dntknw:

 
It's much easier to oil the chain on the center stand. Oh, ah, forget about that reason.

 
Can't even imagine any serious touring machine w/o a centerstand, ...hell, w/o either of them for that matter!

First, it's not easy to put it on the centerstand from the saddle, dismounting after flipping down the sidestand is sooo much easier than balancing the bike while getting off, but then the rock-up is easier, safer way to park, & this is all especially true if fully loaded! As someone has already mentioned, it's waay easier to load [or off-load] it if it's on the centerstand, to say nought of performing some of the maintenance chores, ...even just a wash job. The easiest way on [again, particularly when loaded] is on the centerstand as well, just step up on the near-side peg. Could continue ad-nauseum, but the above are more than enuf justification to leave both attached in my book; ...& I'm 6'3" w/ a 32" inseam, can only guess what it'd be like being vertically challenged w/o having both available.

Well, we do have a differential, and its fill requirements would be harder to meet on the sidestand, and changing and checking oil would be more entertaining.

Took a fellow riding one time, according to him it was like is first "street" bike ride and he said he had a lot of "dirt" bike experience. True statement or not, don't know, but he did seem a little off key on the street. So we are at one interim location, we're on our bikes ready to leave, and he's leaning over, bike and himself, looking down to the left side of his bike, and damned if he doesn't fall over! He said he was attempting to check his oil level and thats how you did it on a dirt bike. His was a Yamaha Seca 550. His bike had a center stand. This was on the coast in CA by the Santa Cruz Mountains, near Hwy 35 "Skyline" vicinity. Saw him again weeks later. Northbound on Hwy 35 (Skyline) which is a FAST FUN ride for bikes, there is a nice left with a boulder near as big as a house to greet you if you miss the turn. He had been riding with others, missed the turn, just missed the boulder, done significant damage to himself, totaled his bike, and said he was going back to dirt bikes.

By the way, thinking about shooting myself in the foot with a .45 hollow point this evening, but I'm going to need to get drunk and fire off a couple of practice rounds first. Can anyone think of any reason that I shoudn't?

Cool. Lets go....I was just talking to OM about tire mileage, and he was thinking of running on the bare rims. Saves tire money and no flats. Comments... thoughts...

Invite bust over to shoot anything. Should be a great time had by all. Some how incorporate baby seals into this and odot may show up too!

Your confusing me Steel, which question do you want answered, the one about getting drunk or the one about using hollow points? By the way, are you really such a bad shot that you need the practice rounds? And whose foot would you use for those practice rounds?

 
IIRC, it's been done. To each his own.

It wouldn't work for me because I use it for parking in my garage (ease of maintenance and pre-ride check) and at work.

It certainly won't gain you any significant ground clearance like some other bikes.

Its weight, when compared to the weight of the bike, isn't going to gain you much.

BUT, if the "cool factor" number is high enough to please you, go ahead and enjoy yourself.

 
Now he's got me wondering: Just why am I putting that centerstand I ordered on the V-Strom tomorrow?

Ease of wheel removal and tire pressure checks, chain cleaning and lubing, oil changes and checking the level, added stability in some parking lot situations (soft, hot asphalt), more upright fueling... That could be it.
